SHADOW GHOST Taps Andy Cheng To Helm Live-Action Adaptation Of Crowdfunded Indie Hit Comic
Crowdfunding is still a viable source for creators to help get their ideas off the ground. Sifu Kurtis Fujita took note last January when he launched his own campaign for indie comic book Shadow Ghost, successfully achieving 263% of its funding goals.
With the first print in toe, it was las November when Fujita signaled fans of a feature/TV adaptation in the works, partnering with Atchity Productions, the studio behind The Meg films. Fast forward six months into the new year and the now-reported movie in question has found a director in renowned stunt-multihyphenate and filmmaker, Andy Cheng.
“We are thrilled to have Andy Cheng on board to direct the Shadow Ghost film,” said Atchity Productions CEO, Dr. Ken Atchity. “His unparalleled experience and passion for martial arts cinema make him the ideal choice to capture the essence of the Shadow Ghost saga. We are confident that this collaboration will result in an unforgettable cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.”
Deadline’s Matt Grobar broke the news on Thursday for Shadow Ghost with the following logline:
Shadow Ghost is described as modern, spellbinding coming-of-age story about a young man embarking on a quest to uncover the secrets surrounding an otherworldly martial arts hero. His journey into the realm of Kung Fu intertwines his fate with that of the enigmatic legend where he will fulfill a centuries-old destiny.
Cheng comes from the venerable crop of Hong Kong stunt talents under Jackie Chan’s stewardship. Cheng’s risen to the occasion for nearly thirty years in stunts and film, taking to the helm for 2006 action thriller End Game, and 2007’s Redline. His recent select credits in stunts and action include Barely Lethal, 6 Underground, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Knights Of The Zodiac.
