Terror Vision Gives Kung Fu Cinema Lovers A Rare Gift – AN OLD KUNG FU MASTER On Blu Ray!
Terror Vision is doing the Lord’s work. Not only are they releasing a steady stream of rare horror gems; they’ve well and truly dipped their toes into kung fu cinema. Two months ago they released the quirky Barry Chan flick, Game of Killers, and this month we get a Blu Ray of the Yuen Siu Tien (Drunken Master, Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow) starring old school gem, AN OLD KUNG FU MASTER. In full remastered glory, no less.
Those that don’t know Yuen Siu Tien may have head of one of his sons – legendary direction and fight choreographer, Yuen Woo Ping (The Matrix, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Drgon). In fact, all of his sons are established names in Hong Kong action cinema and, collectively, are known as the Yuen Clan.
Yuen Siu Tien starred in almost 350 films during his lengthy career, including countless kung fu classics. Sadly, An Old Kung Fu Master was the last of his films to be released. He passed away in 1979, with the film being released two years later, in 1981.
Admittedly, I have a little favoritsm towards Terror Vision’s release since I produced, wrote and recdorded (alongside Ryan Verrill of the the wonderful Disc-Connected YouTube channel) a video essay abut Cecilia Wong (who also stars) for one of the special features. But outide of my addition, this truly is a superb release as the film has rarely been seen outside of dismal VHS rips. Definitely one for for genre fans.
Per Terror Vision:
From actor/director Cheng-Liang Kwan (Showdown At The Equator and The Eight Robbers) comes An Old Kung-Fu Master! A drunken master takes on some new disciples from a Kung-Fu school and he teaches them his secret styles of martial arts to take on a greedy warlord that is trying to take over the land. Old Kung-Fu Master has a HUGE slate of classic veteran actors and martial artists like: Cecilia Wong! Charles Heung! Lap Ban Chan! Chok-Chow Cheung! And More!
Terror Vision is dedicated to preserving films that they grew up on and have loved for decades. This includes rare and unknown martial arts films and An Old Master Kung Fu is one of them. Saved from the brink of extinction from a badly battered print found in a warehouse in Hong Kong. Terror Vision was able to scan, repair, and color correct this severely damaged film in order to bring it to HD for the very first time in the world!
Special Features:
Fists of Beauty: The Cinematic History of Cecilia Wong by Shaun Williams of Someone’s Favorite Productions
Newly Created Subtitles
1981 / 87 min / Unrated / 2.35:1 / 2.0 Audio / Region Free
Notes On Restoration: As said above, we found a print overseas that was heavily damaged and almost unusable. Prints for these types of films are incredibly rare, hard to track down, and pretty expensive. Upon scanning the film, it was almost falling apart, and vinegar syndrome had heavily set in but luckily, we were able to save it and present it in HD. You will notice some heavy damage, but most isn’t repairable and to be honest, these types of films benefit a little from having this look. Just pretend you’re in the 80s going to 42nd street to catch this flick and I’m sure you will have a blast. Also, the film is dubbed in English, but we did find the original audio source, but it was unusable unfortunately.
You can order the film directly from Terror Vision now!
