Martial arts actor, stunt performer and filmmaker Shaun Piccinino recently unveiled the latest new trailer for the upcoming release of The Lackey, courtesy of Cinema Epoch. The film is an independent production by Truly Indie Studios, Hectic Films and Cinescope Media.
It has been four years since the film’s production and completion, leading up to its successful film festival recognition in 2012, now a multi-nominated, multi-award winning phenomenon, earning wide acclaim with rave reviews among critics and fans of martial arts action. The film combines the cinematic vision of Guy Ritchie, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, with the true grit and brutality of a Jason Statham action thriller, enfusing the vision of classic Grindhouse 70’s and 80’s cinema with martial arts action.
When I last spoke to Piccinino in April about his career, and further plans for the film, Piccinino expressed his optimism for a potential series of films to come.
“Steve Pisa and I actually have two sequels currently being penned. The part two script is almost done…” he says.
“I can tell you the story opens up a lot and you find out a lot more about who the title character really is. In the first movie much about Jude St. Clere is a mystery. The sequels explore who he really is, and why he can kick so much ass! And also why he’s a raging alcoholic…”
The Lackey was co-directed by Piccinino and Jason Sanders, and co-choreographed and written by Kung Fu guru Steve Pisa. The film also stars veteran actor Vernon Wells who also served as associate producer with Rachel Montgomery and co-star Guy Grundy; Wells is also expected to star in the sequel. Other stars also include Jeremy Dunn, Lauren Parkinson, producer Rickey Bird Jr., Robin Steffen, Paul Wolverton, Alexandra Holtzman, D.T. Carney, Larry Parrish and Mark Magid.
The Lackey is slated for a Cable/VoD release this August, with a DVD release scheduled for September 17, 2013.
