SIFU: Netflix Nabs Rights To Live-Action Adaptation Of Hit Martial Arts Game, ‘The Maze Runner’ Scribe To Pen Script
A feature adaptation of hit martial arts video game Sifu is coming to Netflix. T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner franchise, The Adam Project) is penning the script which follows a young martial artist’s quest to avenge the death of his mentor, imbued with a magical talisman that revives him whenever he dies, whilst aging him faster in the process.
87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski will produce the film along with Jason Spritz and Alex Young, next to Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. Jordan Layani and Pierre Tarno are exec producing for Slocap, the game’s original developer, alongside Jeff Ludwig, as well as Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval.
Nowlin’s attachment comes after news broke in late 2022 of a live-action feature being developed with John Wick franchise scribe Derek Kolstad. Earlier that year in February selling a million units in its first week, prior to which a fan-tribute action short was produced by Slocap in assocation with BAM Productions. Unless Netflix, 87Eleven, and Story Kitchen have already found their appeal in that project’s director, an update on that end remains pending.
