Jesse V. Johnson loves cinema. Working in various levels of film productions since the early 1990s, the English-born filmmaker first made his name as a stunt performer working on such high profile projects as the original TOTAL RECALL, STARSHIP TROOPERS, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and dozens more. This led to Johnson being a stunt coordinator, a second unit director, and eventually an accomplished feature director. Staying true to his stunt background, the films Johnson has directed are action-packed affairs such as THE DEBT COLLECTOR, TRIPLE THREAT, and AVENGEMENT (to name just a few) that value practical effects and physical performers more than expensive CGI-laden spectacle.
Well this sounds exciting.

EFM 2017: Action Adventure Thriller, SNOW PONIES, Casts Gerard Butler To Star, Produce With 87eleven
With Hollywood action and stunt training facility 87eleven becoming more prolific in the last several years in film production, expect more to come from the outlet as they now have officially paired with actor Gerard Butler for the new action adventure thriller, Snow Ponies. Friday’s announcement hails the directorial debut of Darrin Prescott whose electric 20+ year career in stunt work has since escalated him into second unit direction with projects such as Drive (2011), Captain America: Civil War (2016), the 87eleven-produced 2014 hit thriller, John Wick, as well as its forthcoming sequel from director Chad Stahelski.
Snow Ponies is based on a 2006 Blacklist script by Pat Healy in which Butler leads the story of seven hardened men trekking across a vicious landscape to deliver a mysterious package only to have their mettle tested to the extreme. With murderous bandits stalking them and brutal obstacles at every turn, they are forced to choose between survival and honor, loyalty and deceit, all the while wondering what secrets their precious cargo may contain. Other casting details remain pending as 87eleven spearheads the production with producer Kelly McCormick, and Butler producing through his shared G-BASE banner with Alan Siegel. Nick Meyer and Marc Schaberg of Sierra/Affinity who are financing the film and presenting at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin, are executive producing as are Healy, and Bryan Bucks. WME Global and CAA are co-representing domestic rights for the film.
“The combination of a globally respected actor in Gerard and a dynamic emerging filmmaker in Darrin Prescott give this action film great potential to engage audiences and take them on a journey into a world full of dangerous characters and plot twists,” said Nick Meyer, CEO of Sierra/Affinity. “We are pleased to again be working with Kelly and the team at 87eleven who continue to identify not only unique and compelling material, but also cultivate the next generation of filmmakers.”
McCormick added, “We are so excited about SNOW PONIES because it breaks the standard revenge model by focusing on the dynamics of a group of men being pushed and pulled and picked off by forces beyond their control. The violence is heavy and the action is brutal, but not repellent because it fits in with the mood of this icy and hostile world. Darrin is the perfect director to deliver the punishing, unique action and the characters that deliver and endure it.”
87eleven, the premiere stunt and action design firm in Hollywood best known for some of today’s biggest A-list titles and talent in film and stunts, also shares its credits in titles like John McTiernan’s Ninja Assassin, Jurassic World, Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel from director Dave Green, Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games and Expendables franchises, as well as James Mangold’s The Wolverine and upcoming March 3 follow-up, Logan starring Hugh Jackman.
As of a week ago, Butler, who was last confirmed for Angel Has Fallen as of last October following the $200 million dollar global success of London Has Fallen, is currently in production on Christian Gudegast’s directorial debut crime thriller, Den Of Thieves, and is also to appear in Dean Devlin’s Geostorm for Warner Bros. Pictures. He is represented by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment.
Prescott, an SAG award-winning stunt coordinator having notably left his mark on Paul Greengrass’s The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and also shares second unit directing credits for Marvel’s Black Panther from director Ryan Coogler, is represented by WME and McCormick. Healy is represented by The Gersh Agency and Luber and Rocklin.
…That is the question, and it’s a pretty simple one, although very, VERY little is being willfully said about it since its conception earlier on. For now though, what we can go by is the information currently on display at its official Facebook page, including key names and companies, a very slow feed of stills, and a description that goes a little something like this:
“THRONE” is the an epic, action-adventure film from Halvon Corps. Entertainment, PMV Entertainment (“JumpStart the Movie”), and the producers who brought you “Violence” and “Insecurity”!
“THRONE” has an insanely talented international cast and crew led by Aaron Toney (“Gaurdians of the Galaxy”), James Young (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), & Brendon Huor (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”). If you follow my site and happen to be a devout fan of independent film and action cinema, you’ll likely recognize the names mentioned above, like Hollywood stuntman Aaron Toney, who is directing this project. And it makes sense that Toney is the one sitting in the director’s chair considering how much talent he sees and appreciates among professional performers, something he expressed in a special exclusive interview with our own Darren Bailey earlier this year. “I’ve seen nothing but good things come from people like The Stunt People, Thousand Pounds, EMC, Lazy Brown Productions…all these guys are top notch, …which is why I like working with all you guys.” he said. “You do some of your best work with independent, like-minded people.”
Needless to say, these like minds are keeping extra quiet about this little upcoming gem, and perhaps rightfully so, seeing as how awesome this project is already looking. So, indeed, no spoilers or clues just yet, but by all means, do the sensible thing and follow Project: THRONE on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and watch this space for more news!

By the way, if you haven’t looked at the mini-teasers yet, then congratulations! You are a master now! 🙂 The film features actor Hugh Jackman reprising the title role following up the four previous films of the X-Men film franchise, including a special cameo role in the 2012 hit film, X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughan, all based on the successful classic comic book arc. The cast also includes Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, veteran international action star Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee. The film will makes its 2D and 3D theatrical debut this summer on July 26, 2013.
No word yet on who will be cast in the film other than that of Megan Fox, who will portray April O’Neil in the film, which came as a shock to many just a few years after Bay and Fox fell out upon the release of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.
