STARDREAM: Vanessa Kirby To Lead ‘The Wife’ Director’s Sci-Fi Thriller
Like a palpable mix of 2001: A Space Odyssey with any title you could pluck from a list of movies where Earth is somehow “failing”, such is what you might discern from the latest on sci-fi thriller, StarDream.
Stewart Clarke at Variety details BAFTA-winning actress Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) is the prime choice to lead the integalactic sci-fi tale about a ship hastily built to transport hundreds of thousands of people cryogenically stasis from a dying Earth. Penned by Felix Harrison (Far Edge Of The World), Kirby will play Andreya, a coder whose newly-created A.I., “Stephen” – initially installed to sustain the ship when its main computer fails – develops a profound attachment to her, thus effectively endangering the mission and the fate of mankind.
“To play the leading role in this intergalactic drama needs an extremely sensitive and thoughtful actress who can maintain the balance in her character: I have found that actress in Vanessa Kirby,” Runge said. “It is a tremendous honor for me to work together with her on this film.”
Runge, whose 2017 drama, The Wife, earned actress Glenn Close a Golden Globe, and an Oscar nomination, reunites with a number of the film’s crew, along with producers Claudia Bluemhuber from Silver Reel, and Jason Newmark and Laurie Cook from BigScope Films.
Kirby, repped by Hamilton Hodell in the U.K., and WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners in North America, will also appear in Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw this August.
