Streaming Sleepers: Gordon Chan’s FIST OF LEGEND Lands A Hit On Tubi!
Undoubtedly, now’s as good a time to be a fan of Jet Li with Shout! Studios currently shepherding five classic actioners for a glorious physical release this summer. Included in the bundle is Gordon Chan’s 1992 martial arts action hit, Fist Of Legend, revamping Bruce Lee’s 1972 staple, Fists Of Fury.
The films are also getting digital releases as well, but you can now catch this particular Li starrer on Tubi, Shout! label and all. The version presented, however, is the Miramax/Buena Vista remix for the film’s U.S. rollout at the turn of the century. That means getting reacquainted with voice actor John DeMita’s apt portrayal of Li’s Chen Zhen for Western audiences.
This version was actually ported onto the Dragon Dynasty DVD release which I own. One of the core differences here with the Shout! release is that the opening credits of the Miramax/Buena Vista score are included without the graphic illustration, and is instead presented in red text to a black background. Some of the scene changes are just a little glitchy in this Tubi upload from when I watched it but the playback is ample with no freezing or audio issues as of this post.
I take it this is the version of the film that will be presented on the disc when The Jet Li Collection arrives late next month along with all available audio selections and features to boot. We’ll see. I actually look forward to writing about this collection ahead of its release if I can. Fingers and toes crossed!
