JESSICA JONES Sees Krysten Ritter At The Helm In The Latest Promo

“Sometimes not even heroes can save themselves…” Such is the tagline for Netflix‘s third and final outing for Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which Netflix is teasing once more with a brand new behind-the-scene featurette with actress Krysten Ritter tackling directing duties this final season. Effectively season three also marks the last hoorah for all things Marvel on the streaming service following the cancellations of all of the other five shows in the past year, namely Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher. Marvel’s Jessica Jones had a lukewarm take off in 2015 with Ritter in the title role, playing a binge-drinking ex-superhero-cum-private investigator afflicted by tragedy and an a villainous ex-lover whose machinations would render her with severe psychological trauma for years. Netflix Officially Cancels THE PUNISHER And JESSICA JONES

The trades are officially reporting that Punisher and Jessica Jones are no more with Netlfix completely purging itself of its Marvel TV roster. Via The Wrap: “‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come,” Netflix said in a statement. “In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones.’ We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. You might argue that Mark Steven Johnson’s take on Marvel’s own ‘The Man Without Fear’ in 2003 didn’t really live up to the expectations many. 2014 has been a great year for Marvel and Netflix since ramping things up with a few announcements a little over a year ago for a slate of Marvel programs for four non-MCU characters. Since then, there’s been much progress with Charlie Cox as Daredevil whose costumed and civilian look can currently be viewed online in several promo pics prior to premiering in May in 2015, in addition to the casting of Krysten Ritter in A.K.A. Jessica Jones, the story of the titular former superheroine-turned-incognito crimefighter who assists other superheroes in their missions. The latter news broke earlier this month as fans were awaiting just who would appear as fellow Marvel superhero Luke Cage, who had already been reported to possibly appear in several episodes.
