Trailer: GUNDALA Lights Up The Bumilangit Cinematic Universe For North America In July!

The Bumilangit Cinematic Universe is officially setting sail to North America with the official trailer for Joko Anwar’s comic book adaptation, Gundala. There’s lots of action thrown in for this particular asset seeing as the domestic trailer was a straight tease of things to come, and so I can see the necessary push to appeal to the West. We like when things fly, fight and go boom, so, this is nice. Based on the classic 1969 comic from creator Harya “Hasmi” Suraminata, Gundala is described as “a poignant portrayal of the notion that heroes—whether everyday or superhuman—can be found anywhere (though a superpower never hurts). Indonesian cinema’s resurgence in the last decade now stakes its claim even further in comic book fandom with an adaptation of Hasmi’s local 1960s fan fave, Gundala. As of yesterday, Matthew Scott’s exclusive at The Hollywood Reporter has published a spotlight of the latest adaptation of Hasmi’s comic by celebrated director Joko Anwar whose new film begins the launch of a superhero cinematic universe under the newly-merged Screenplay Bumilangit Film. Leading the way is actor Abimana Aryasatya (3: Alif Lam Mim, The Night Comes For Us) in the title role as the script switches gears for our hero from scientist to security guard. With the hype engine already running for superhero franchise momentum in Southeast Asia, it’ll be writer/director Joko Anwar‘s turn soon enough as we edge closer to the release of upcoming graphic novel adaptation, Gundala. For this, we now have a new glimpse of actor Abimana Aryasatya (3: Alif Lam Mim, The Night Comes For Us) on both sides of the title costume; it’s only at the tail end that we get a quick taste of Arysatya’s Gundala in action, but the teaser itself does an ample job of setting a tone that both mystifies, and satisfies in the action and drama. [UPDATED] Watch The New Trailer For Futuristic Indo Action Thriller, 3!

Director Anggy Umbara is ready to darken things a bit after going the action comedy route with his latest sequel stint, Comic 8: Casino Kings. His newest endeavor as of the past year or so are now culminating very nicely with a slick new trailer now making the rounds for the new film, 3, pitting futuristic aesthetics with gritty and hardcore storytelling and characters grounded in a millieu of uncertainty, as well as assuring thrills and hard-hitting action. There’s no English synopsis but there’s an Indonesian insert in the descruption of the trailer which also has English subtitles to outline a good idea of what’s happening: longstanding philosophical and ideological differences among bitter friends, mainly. The important thing here is that the action looks appealing and it should be worth checking out once it releases, and hopefully to wider audiences through broader acquisitions.
