A new poster is out touting Takeshi Kitano’s new subversive crime comedy, Broken Rage. According to the film’s description, “the first half follows a hitman, Nezumi (played by Takeshi Kitano), fighting for his survival when he’s caught between the police and yakuza. But in the second half, the gritty crime-action thriller takes an unexpected turn, evolving into a self-parodying comedy that retells the same story with a captivatingly humorous touch.” Broken Rage makes history as the first Japanese film produced for streaming to be officially festival-selected, with an Out Of Competition premiere slated for September 6 at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. According to Amazon’s announcement, “The Greatest intimately explores the incomparable life of Muhammad Ali. The amazing victories and defeats that made Ali a legend, both in and out of the ring, have been well documented and while those landmark events will live in The Greatest, the heartbeat of the story is fueled by all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight. The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son. Michael B. Jordan’s (the Creed franchise) Outlier Society […]
Japanese auteur Takeshi Kitano announced he’s currently working on a new film for Amazon MGM Studios on Tuesday. That’s pretty much all there is to know about the mystery movie aside from that Kitano himself is directing and starring in it. A few trade sources previously reported that Kitano’s latest, Kubi, a subversive period piece chronicling the taboo and blood-drenched final years of Oda Nobunaga’s reign, would be his final flick. Not so, apparently, so there’s that. I should mention that Kubi is currently making the festival rounds after debuting at Cannes last year, and will soon hit Japan Cuts audiences in New York City in July. More from the language on Kitano’s collab with Amazon MGM: “Takeshi Kitano is an icon, not only in Japan but in the sphere of global film and media entertainment, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with him on the project, soon to launch on […]
This little news byte made it past me as I’d been recuperating from a shitty fever this week. Indeed though, a Road House sequel is happening, and I’m hear for it. Jake Gyllenhaal starred in the remake along with a bevy of talents that reimagined the 1989 action thriller that starred the late Patrick Swayze. Doug Liman directed the film which centers on a downtrodden ex-fighter whose latest hire at a Road House in the Florida Keys forces him to confront his darker side when the town’s worst auspices begin surfacing. There’s a whole history of behind-the-scenes brouhaha and legal stuff that occurred before (and after) the film’s launch back in March, which imaginably nearly upended the PR campaign. Luckily, the film’s two leads, including Conor McGregor got in front of the controversy to puts some glitz and glam before the media. The result? Welp… Per Amazon MGM Studios, its […]

The update comes following MGM Television’s attachment to the project along with the casting of actor Diego Boneta in 2019, in addition to the hire of Robert Rodriguez to direct and exec produce for Apppe TV+. Per the reports, Rodriguez is no longer attached to the show as well, while creator Eric Carrasco (Foundation, Supergirl) remains on board the project to exec produce and co-showrun next to alongside exec producers Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septién. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is now streaming on Prime Video. Picking up on the creative potential from director Doug Liman’s 2005 romantic spy thriller of the same name, the eight-part episodic of Amazon MGM’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith takes on a much more offbeat tone with a world-expanding vision that plays more on situational comedy and drama tones than genre fans might expect. The result is a smartly-crafted and well-fleshed out take on the property from creators Francesca Sloane and actor Donald Glover who headlines the show in title form next to Maya Erskine. The treatment this time around lends a psychological profile of our main characters, government assassins working for a black ops agency that assigns taskes ranging from low-risk to super high-risk. From the outset of their arranged partnership screened as a marriage, both John (Glover) and Jane (Erskine) are tasked with acquainting themselves with one another, oftentimes […]
A Prime Video series adaptation is officially pending based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel, Criminal. Creators/authors Ed Brubaker (Westworld, Batman: Caped Crusader) and Sean Phillips on board to exec produce. More from Deadline via Brubaker in 2019 from Monday’s report: “Criminal tells the interweaving saga of several generations of families tied together by the crimes and murders of the past,” … “And one of the big events in many of these characters’ pasts, which has been referenced since the very first Criminal story, was the death of Teeg Lawless. Before we even met Teeg, we knew that he had died when his son was a teenager, but other than the identity of his killer, we have never told the rest of that story. It’s just been a ghost haunting the series, as Teeg Lawless has become one of the most popular characters in the comic.” Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reports […]
