Enter Gowe's 16-Bit World Of Poetic Wonder In AURORA

Being that I’m in a musical mood lately, I felt like highlighting the latest entry into Machinima’s 2nd Annual Online Interactive Film Festival from 2nd-generation Chinese-American underground hip hop artist, Gowe, titled Aurora. Completed and aired back in February, it has all the trimmings of all the kinds of 80’s and 90’s anime and gaming fanfare being used to highlight Gowe’s message, which also apparently involves robots, lasers, supermoves, spaceflight, a girl with wings, and a 16-bit likeness of Gowe himself kicking ass, armed with a rocket launcher, and yes…explosions, of course. Good times. Follow Gowe on Twitter. In Aurora, Gowe describes the battles in his musical journey as an independent artist against his harsh critics and the conformity of mainstream entertainment. The animation pays homage to both new and old video games of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, classic arcades, 90’s cartoons, and Japanese animé.

It’s All Fun And Games Until Someone Gets Spirit Bombed In The New Shortfilm, SUPER MOVES

Fireballing the internet in the face once again is the latest new video from Canada-based independent filmmaker Yung Lee titled Super Moves. The short film comes off the heels of Lee‘s kick off release of Back To School Bully just a few weeks ago, as per a new slate of shortfilms to premiere every other Tuesday and Wednesday courtesy of his Youtube channel, Gak Attack. Super Moves also stars action performer Geoff Meech in which both actors engage in a friendly comedic duel to see who is willing to play fair before surrendering to the urge to kick it up over 9,000. And if you’re familiar with gaming and anime culture, you pretty much know what that means. New Release Date For SPACE PIRATE: CAPTAIN HARLOCK

Crunchyroll has forwarded the latest long-form trailer for the upcoming 3DCG animated galactic action adventure, Space Pirate: Captain Harlock from writer Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC), and director Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Appleseed: Ex-Machina, Halo: Legends). The news comes along with a new Japan theatrical release date set for September 7, 2013. The film is based on a classic 1950’s/1970’s original manga character by artist Leiji Matsumoto, about a hero who becomes a space pirate and rebels against Earth’s government to save mankind. The film, budgeted at $30 million dollars, was three years in the making since Toei Animation announced its development back in 2010 for a scheduled 2012 release at the time, in addition to the rebooted anime and manga franchise. Director Sion Sono To Direct Live Action TOKYO TRIBES Movie

Indiewire is reporting via the Anime News Network that Japan is taking steps to bring “Tokyo Tribe 2” to the big screen. Director Sion Sono, who is said to be something of a controversial filmmaker is helming the project. The film will be based on a series of graphic novels published since 1993 by author Santa Inoue, which were later adapted into a 13-part TV series. I have not had the chance to see any of Sono’s films just yet. However, based on what I read in the report, and in other reports, the manga does not sound too far off from what the award-winning filmmaker and poet is capable of. Its been a while since I have seen anything Dragonball Z related. I used to watch the show on TV when it was dubbed in English and kept up with it as much as I could. The 2009 live-action film directed by James Wong was something I really wanted to love, in the hopes we would get a sequel. But alas, it didn’t pan out that way. Anyway, the guys at Toei have a new film coming out.
