We have a new international trailer this week for the upcoming release of Jupiter Ascending, the latest sci-fi fantasy action opera from brother/sister directing duo Andy and Lana Wachowski. The footage is basically everything that has already been seen in the initial teaser that was unveiled in the teaser late last year in December, just with Japanese subtitles. IGN confirmed this week that actress Adriene Palicki will star once again in the upcoming third installment of Hasbro’s G.I. Joe film franchise from Paramount. The news came admist an interview with the actress on the set of her next action film with Keanu Reeves, John Wick, where she reflects on being one of the most sought-after actresses for action movies, as well as her time filming and potentially starring in NBC’s television rendition of the iconic DC Comics heroine, Wonder Woman, prior to the show’s last-minute cancellation; That role has since gone to actress Gal Gadot for the big screen release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman vs. Superman movie. ComingSoon.net has forwarded an announcement from Warner Bros. Pictures of the new July 18, 2014 release date for the upcoming film, Jupiter Ascending, a week ahead of its previous date of July 25. Reportedly the move came after Matt Reeves’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes pushed its release date further ahead to July 11th, which ultimately led to WB’s new date shift, leaving the July 25th date in the clear for Brett Ratner’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars with actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Just after new footage was recently teased on Entertainment Tonight, the first full teaser for Jupiter Ascending arrived online. Best known for their visionary work on The Matrix Trilogy, Speed Racer and most notable cult fan favorite, Cloud Atlas, this latest venture into vast, intergalactic storytelling from brother and sister filmmaking duo Andy and Lana Wachowski, sees actress Mila Kunis and actor Channing Tatum in a story that Lana, in not letting the cat out of the bag too much, promises will have “a lot of things from a lot of genres that we love.” Jupiter Ascending also stars Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D’Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith. To be honest, Channing Tatum was the last person I would expect to turn into a blockbuster action star. Films like Step Up and Coach Carter were a few of the films in which many of us first discovered him. Who would have thought he would be taking on Cung Le in Fighting, and the C.O.B.R.A. forces in both G.I. Joe films? It also helps that Channing, like some stars such as he, has a kung fu background of sorts. So I sincerely hope to see him in another action film that centers around martial arts action. Some call G.I. Joe: Retaliation a sequel to the 2009 film, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. Some call it reboot altogether. I call it a little bit of both, but its definitely a sequel and should be acknowledged as so. Retaliation summarizes a little bit of the first movie before entering the new bilateral storyline that reunites actor Channing Tatum as Duke, with the character Snake Eyes, played by Ray Park, along with Byung Hun-Lee, Arnold Vosloo and Jonathan Pryce reprising their roles as Storm Shadow, Zartan and The President. The featurette illustrates the bitter rivalry between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, respectively played by Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee, with Lee, delving into newer dynamics of his character for the sequel to the 2009 movie, G.I. Like the previous trailers we have seen, including the French international teaser, the footage is mostly more of the same, but is edited with Korean subtitles. What is interesting to me so far is the distinct possibility that Storm Shadow, played by Byung-hun Lee could be siding with the heroes this time around, after his last appearance in the first film. Other than that, I am open to seeing how the film plays out when it hits theaters on its new release date, March 29, 2013, since the pushback of post-production to include 3D conversion, among other reasons.
