‘Ruthless’ Helmer’s Feminist Revenge Western Short, THE GOOD TIME GIRLS, Gets The Feature Treatment

Gina DeDomenico Flanagan Following her attachment to action spec, Ruthless, Baby Driver and The Hateful Eight costume designer, filmmaker Courtney Hoffman is advancing into feature-length with her Summer short, The Good Time Girls. The project was shot on 35mm and made as part of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and Refinery 29’s Shatterbox Anthology. As Deadline reported on Friday, Argent Pictures obtained the feature film rights with Hoffman at helm from a script written with co-scribe Lucy Teitler. Jill Ahrens will produce for Argent next to Jordana Mollick for Haven Entertainment and Nine Stories’s Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker. Argent’s own Ryan Ahrens and Ben Renzo are executive producing next to Mandalay’s Jason Michael Berman, Jaywalker Pictures’s Jayme Lemons and Shannon McIntosh, and Haven Entertainment’s Brendan Bragg. Its movement now brings us to the news of prolific costume designer Courtney Hoffman whose credits include Baby Driver and The Hateful Eight, as well as in directing with her most recent feminist Western short film, The Good Time Girls. The project was shot on 35mm and made it as part of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and Refinery 29’s Shatterbox Anthology. Apparently it’s what also got Hoffman’s foot in the door and well on her way to helming her debut narrative feature, Ruthless, an action speculative script written by John Swetnam which landed Amblin Partners back in February with San Andreas and Rampage helmer Brad Peyton attached at the time.
