‘Ruthless’ Helmer’s Feminist Revenge Western Short, THE GOOD TIME GIRLS, Gets The Feature Treatment

Following her attachment to action spec, Ruthless, Baby Driver and The Hateful Eight costume designer, filmmaker Courtney Hoffman is advancing into feature-length with her Summer short, The Good Time Girls. The project was shot on 35mm and made as part of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and Refinery 29’s Shatterbox Anthology. 
As Deadline reported on Friday, Argent Pictures obtained the feature film rights with Hoffman at helm from a script written with co-scribe Lucy Teitler. Jill Ahrens will produce for Argent next to Jordana Mollick for Haven Entertainment and Nine Stories’s Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker. Argent’s own Ryan Ahrens and Ben Renzo are executive producing next to Mandalay’s Jason Michael Berman, Jaywalker Pictures’s Jayme Lemons and Shannon McIntosh, and Haven Entertainment’s Brendan Bragg.
The Good Time Girls short, which played pivotally in landing Relentless for Hoffman back in September, is led by actress Laura Dern for the story of a group of women who use their brothel to exact bloody vengeance against a group of men terrorizing the American West. Mollick also produced the acclaimed with Quentin Tarantino, Jaywalker’s McIntosh and Lemons, and Refinery29 executive producing.

Said Jill Ahrens: “Courtney is a refreshingly unbridled storyteller who embodies everything we want to be aligned with at Argent, so it really didn’t take long for us to commit to going all in on her vision for the Good Time Girls feature.”

Said Hoffman: “The Good Time Girls is dedicated to the ideaology that when women unite, incredible change is possible. I can’t imagine a more important time to tell this story than in our current climate. I am so grateful that Argent Pictures shares my vision and is supporting me along with my producers to homage a male dominated genre with a feminine perspective, on and off the camera.”

Argent is also financing the pic with plans to shoot in New Mexico beginning in February. Endeavor Content has worldwide distribution rights.
