The creative minds behind “The Brothers’ Sun” and “For All Mankind” are steering the new adaptation based on Wang Dulu’s classic Crane-Iron pentalogy.
Sony Pictures Classics is handing wuxia fans an encore presentation with Ang Lee’s decorated 2000 release, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in theaters everywhere on February 17. The studio made the announcement several days ago via social media and a brand-new trailer which you can view at the bottom of the page. The film toplines actress and Time Magazine’s Icon Of The Year 2022, Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy) along with actor Chow Yun-Fat, Zhang Ziyi, and Chang Chen for a story adapted for the screen from author Wang Dulu’s serialized novels in the 1940s. Reports are being forwarded from Chinese media with breaking news that actress Zhang Ziyi, star of director Wong Kar-Wai’s latest martial arts epic, The Grandmaster, is announcing her retirement from kung fu movies, citing longstanding injuries dating back to filming director Ang Lee’s 2000 kung fu adventure, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. “I don’t believe there’s another role that can surpass this. And I’ve had so many injuries from a long time ago during Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon when I injured my neck.” she tells the public. “Those old injuries really bother me and after three years of this one, my body cannot take it any more. According to new reports from Jayne Stars, Silver Vase, Iron Knight the upcoming sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon may have found its director in actor David Thwaites, whose credits also include producer and executive producer in such films as Robocop and Black Swan, respectively. The news comes as word began developing around Donnie Yen’s hyped appearance in the upcoming film. Among other details, Jayne Stars also divulged some new information about the character Yen is in talks to play, which is that of Michelle Yeoh’s character’s dead fianceè. The salary offered to Yen, which an MSN report stated was a secret according to the action star, was $50 million HKD. There is no word yet on who is set to helm the upcoming film, Silver Vase, Iron Knight since director Ronny Yu backed out a few weeks ago. But the word is now that as busy as Donnie Yen is these days while working on the upcoming overbudgeted 3D reboot of Iceman Cometh, is he is also set to star in the aforementioned sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which is slated to begin filming this May, with a screenplay by John Fusco. Singapore about actor Ekin Cheng, it was reported that director Ronny Yu will not be helming the upcoming sequel to Ang Lee’s award-winning martial arts epic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Back in January, Deadline reported that The Weinstein Company was confident it secured the rights to Chinese author Wang Du Lu’s 5-part “Crane-Iron” book series to produce Silver Vase, Iron Knight, with martial artist and screenwriter John Fusco providing the script. Although no other cast members have officially been annouced, international actress and action star Michelle Yeoh is set to reprise her role from Ang Lee’s film as swordwoman, Yu Shu Lien, with master martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping directing the action.
