Director Bruno Mourral’s career has been a slow brew since 2006. After finally making headway with the 2017 award-winning feature drama, Kafou, Mourral came back with a vengeance to hand festivals his latest crowdpleaser, Kidnapping Inc., garnering critical acclaim after Sundance, as well as the Gold Audience Award for Best Quebec Feature the 28th edition of Fantasia last year. As of Wednesday, Kidnapping Inc. is poised for release in the U.S. on February 7 from Dark Star Pictures. The film stars Jasmuel Andri, Rolaphton Mercure, Anabel Lopez, Ashley Laraque, Gessica Geneus, Patrick Joseph, Manfred Marcelin, and Marcus Boerean. Mourral directs from a script he wrote with Andri, and Gilbert Jr. Mirambeau, and also produces alongside Mirambeau, as well as Samuel Chauvin, Yanick Letourneau, and Gaëthan Chancy. Tasked with what appears to be a simple abduction for hire, two hapless kidnappers find out that it’s anything but and end up in […]
With Egor Abramenko’s Sputnik still forthcoming, it’ll be worthwhile to make note of its producer, celebrated blockbuster director Fedor Bondarchuk, whose own filmic succession with Attraction sequel, Attraction 2: Invasion, now comes with a handy trailer for its U.S. release from Dark Sky Films, English dubbing included. Geez, what a time to be talking about viruses, eh? Well, how’s about a little escapism for your Spring with the U.S. release announcement for Flavio Pedota’s award-winning thriller, Infection. The film is popular in its native Venezuela where it also happens to be banned for its anti-Chavismo. After an outbreak of a new strand of the rabies virus turns the population into bloodthirsty cannibals, a young doctor finds himself separated from his son. Navigating his way through the plague-infested streets and marauder-filled backwoods, he must use every resource to find his only child and hopefully unlock the secret to a cure for the deadly disease. INFECTION received its world premiere at Guadalajara and has since screened at Sitges (Spain), Fantasporto (Portugal), Utopiales (France), Popcorn Frights (US), Fantaspoa (Brasil), Morbido (Mexico), Raindance (UK) and Festival Of Fear in Canada where it won Best Film. Jinga Films and Dark Sky Films […]
We Are Still Here helmer Ted Geoghegan is hailing a bloody reckoning this season with his second feature film, Mohawk. The film became a festival darling following its world premiere at Fantasia last summer and with more event screenings to come before its official release on March 2 from Dark Sky Films, we finally have an official trailer making the rounds to introduce the War of 1812-set thriller. After one of her tribe sets an American camp ablaze, a young Mohawk warrior finds herself pursued by a contingent of military renegades set on revenge. Fleeing deep into the woods they call home, Oak and Calvin, along with their British companion Joshua, must now fight back against the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt and his soldiers – using every resource both real and supernatural that the winding forest can offer. Actress Kaniehtiio Horn (Hemlock Grove) lead a cast that includes actors Jonathan Huber […]
My guess was as good as anyone else’s when I first learned of what would become of award-winning director Onur Tukel’s latest, Catfight. The film then wrapped in late 2015 and premiered at TIFF last year to a resounding reception with notable reviews that garnish the film’s roll out suitably for a release hopefully not too far down the line. For this, we get actresses Sandra Oh and Anne Heche who are both impeccable performers in their own right with actress Alicia Silverstone, and co-stars Dylan Baker, Tituss Burgess newcomer Ariel Kavoussi. As such and drawing from the conclusions of critics, it appears Tukel’s independent feat is nothing short of a well-rounded and fully balanced comedy that accomplishes a great deal of things for its run time. Festival programmer Jane Schoettle had the following to add in detail about the film ahead of its 2016 premiere: A reunion between two […]
Writer and director Jason Lei Howden‘s newest horror romp, Deathgasm, has become quite the favorite in all of the past year with festival showings at Neuchatel, Fantaspoa and SXSW to name a few. In short, if the reviews tell you nothing else, they’ll tell you chalk this one up as a must-see if you love outrageous gore, action and spectacle with a plot and a story with a look cranks everything past the knob’s reach. For this, the kind folks over at Dark Sky Films are the ones to thank as we now have a U.S. theatrical and digital release date set for October 2. Exclusive screenings are still being shown as of September 13 with tour dates set for Tucson, Los Angeles and New York City as the latest of the slate, and you can make note of them for yourself at the film’s official website. As for this […]
We’re still a ways from Santiago Violenta helmer Ernesto Diaz Espinoza‘s latest stint with Chilean action hero, actor Marko Zaror in the bilingual revenge opus, Redeemer, following its stellar film festival run late last year. At any rate, the film is getting release in North America from MPI Media’s Dark Sky Films this summer with a date pending, and with an initial trailer already online, we now have a new poster making the rounds from the folks at XYZ Films who also produced the film. Take a look SYNOPSIS: Marko Zaror is Pardo, a man with a heavy burden on his soul, looking for a way to atone for his past sins. As a vigilante, he stops criminals in their tracks and gives them only one chance to ask for forgiveness. Bad guys being bad guys, they rarely listen, and so Pardo disposes of them in any gruesome way available […]
Seeing authentic, awesome martial arts action on the big screen is a dream as many of these kinds of films lately end up on the small screen. Very few make it to larger venues though, many of them which happen to be small-scale theatrical releases in some capacity. Granted, it’s a start, and can prove to be as memorable and exciting an experience when you’re in a room with the right crowd. That said, if you’re a Marko Zaror fan, then gear up with as many like-minded individuals as possible, because the Chilean martial arts action star is coming to North America with the release of his newest revenge flick, Redeemer. Yahoo reports via The Wrap that MPI Media Group has attained all U.S. distribution rights to the film for a summer 2015 release via its genre subsidiary, Dark Sky Films. Filmmaker Ernesto Diaz Espinoza reunites with Zaror to direct […]
