It was on Sunday that actor, producer and filmmaker David Sandberg teased forthcoming announcements for the long-awaited sequel, Kung Fury 2: The Movie. His social media posts on Twitter and Instagram featured conceptual artwork by Ivan Reiss, Marcelo Maiolo, Josan Gonzales, and Alexis Ziritt along with mentions of certain producers now tied to official trade news confirmed as of Monday about the upcoming summer shoot. Word has it that Michael Fassbender is joining the film in an undisclosed role along with actor David Hasselhoff who sang the theme to the 2015 shortfilm that successfully blew past its Kickstarter goals a few years earlier, now with more than 40 million views in its wake before confirming a feature film effort in summer of 2016. Well I sure didn’t see this coming, but it looks like a new Knight Rider film is in order with the official website launch of Knight Rider Heroes. The original 1982 show created by Glen A. Larson has seen its share of serial reboots and a TV film since then and while a feature film has been in the works since 2002, it seems fair to say that any feature film rendition would ultimately need its original cast. Alas, we welcome back our own True Survivor as of late, actor David Hasselhoff who appears in the new teaser alongside his trusty A.I. Pontiac Trans Am, K.I.T.T., and a cast likely to be announced in the coming days and weeks. The highly successful crowdfunding and subsequent production of Laser Unicorn’s upcoming online free release, Kung Fury, is finally headed toward a late May release. The project has garnered plenty of attention in the past year as independent filmmaker and actor David Sandberg launched funding for the project in stellar fashion with mind-blowing footage that harkens back to just the correct tone of 80’s outlandish sci-fi cheese and flair one could take in. Needless to say, as much as this was a small-budgeted indie actioner with a skeleton crew, Kung Fury is proof that where applicable, the vision is what matters.
