Legendary 19th century warrior queen Lakshmibai is off to another round on the big screen this year with Roadside Attractions’s release, The Warrior Queen Of Jhansi.
The wait has been an extensive one with post-production, a social media campaign and exclusive event screenings, but the word is now out for Cayenne Pepper Productions CEO, renowned choreographer and dancer Swati Bhise’s directorial debut, The Warrior Queen Of Jhansi.
Cayenne Pepper Productions CEO, renowned choreographer and dancer Swati Bhise is reportedly well underway with upcoming period epic, Swords And Sceptres. Actress Devika Bhise is starring in the lead role with a story that tells of Rani Lakshmibai, the Queen of Jhansi, who trained in martial arts and various aspects of military combat before ultimately becoming a symbol of female empowerment upon leading in the uprise against the British East India Company during the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857.
The film marks a directorial debut for the Hong Kong-based filmmaker who previously executive produced Matthew Brown’s 2016 biopictoral novel adaptation, The Man Who New Infinity in which the actress also appears in the film. Joining Bhise are the newest addition of actors Rupert Everett and Derek Jacobi, with Nathaniel Parker, Ben Lamb and Jodhi May along with Indian actors Nagesh Bhonsle, Yatin Karyekar, Milind Gunaji, Arif Zakaria and Ajinkya Deo also starring according to Screendaily. Production locations thusfar include Jodhpur and Jaipur before moving to London and Morocco next week.
