If nothing else, 88 Films understands the need for posterity on physical media when it comes to classic Hong Kong cinema. For this, say what you will about previous incarnations of Corey Yuen and Sammo Hung’s hit action comedy, Dragons Forever, but the UK-based firm is finally rolling out a portion of the goods with the official key art for its re-release as announced earlier this year, as illustrated by Robert “Kung Fu Bob” O’Brien. The film centers on a lawyer, an arms dealer and a career burglar (Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao) who find themselves embroiled in a mix of romantic upheaval, and a face-to-face duel with an underground narcotics operation fronting as a chemical factory. The film also stars Pauline Yeung, Deanne Ip and Yuen Wah with appearances by Billy Chow, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, Phillip Ko-Fei and many more for its re-relese which will be 4K, […]
The Fighting Spirit Film Festival (FSFF) is gearing up its Fall 2019 induction with a feature screening premiere of Jesse Johnson’s The Mercenary on Saturday, September 7. The line-up also lists Hong Kong action comedy classic, Dragons Forever, and Vietnamese sci-fi action adventure, Loi Bao, as well as a fourth mystery title. Martial arts star and ex-Legionaire, actor Dominiquie Vandenberg takes the reigns as a former legionnaire-turned-mercenary forced to face down his demons once more when his past comes back, interrupting his path of tranquility and redemption. The film marks a ninth collab for Johnson and Vandenberg who’ve previously shared the set with Vandenberg’s 2006 lead debut, Pit Fighter. The Mercenary also stars Carmen Argenziano and regroups Johnson with actor Louis Mandylor of The Debt Collector and Avengement fame – both featuring action star, actor and martial artist Scott Adkins. The Mercenary also signals Johnson’s second recoupling with the Fighting […]
I have often talked about the Martial Club before on my Facebook page. Martial Club is a professional sports team based out in California. The members currently include Daniel Mah, and the Le brothers, Andy and Brian. Andy has been training for about five or six years, with Brian practicing for up to three. In 2009 they started making shortfilms of their own through 2010 when they met Daniel Mah. From what I have researched so far, the team is largely known in its working comnunity as a small group of athletes who train in Wushu Kung Fu and gymnastics, and for competing and showcasing their dynamic skillsets for live sporting events at places like the JAM Gymnasium in Reseda, California. Martial Club is also known for partaking in performing stunts and choreographing action sequences for today’s independent action film industry, as can be seen on their YouTube channel, as […]
