Drifting Pictures Launches With Publicity For Upcoming Crime Thriller, VOR
A lot has happened since the peak of this past summer in July for the folks over at Hong Kong-based independent studio, Drifting Pictures. In a period of three months, what was once intended to be a shortfilm has grown into a fully purposed make a noteworthy feature-length production titled Vor, shortened from its previous name, Vor: Trust Me, I’m A Thief.
Set in Moscow and Hong Kong, Vor is described an epic martial arts gangster tale that explores the honor codes and rules of the Russian and Chinese criminal underworlds. Produced by Youssef Soliman and actor Harry Oram who co-stars, the zero-budgeted film marks the directorial debut of writer and actor Philippe Joly starring alongside Kirt Kishita, Andrew Ng, Tom Caserto and action director Temur Mamisashvili, with Jai Day, Beck Artikov, Lorea Solabarrieta, Nathalie Ng, Alan Wai and Nathan Kan rounding out much of the main cast, and a production wrap-up deadline set for December.
SYNOPSIS:
When the news that the head of the feared Russian organized crime, the Vori v Zakone (Thieves in Law), died in a ferry crash in Hong Kong, reaches his second in command in Moscow, Alexander Orlov, he rushes to Hong Kong to meet with Hu, the son of the Triad Dragon’s head, Mr. Wong, in order to renegotiate the future collaboration with the Triads in the region.
He soon discovers that all is not what it seems and that codes of honour and rules of the underworld can be easily rewritten to suit one’s need.
A set of events unravels and puts to the test the long lasting loyalties originally born in the Soviet prisons. Keeping your friends close but your enemies closer may find its true meaning in VOR, an action film that uses Hong Kong as a backdrop to explore the modern mindset of the underworld, in which old-school believers in the Thieves’ Code get challenged by new generations of criminals driven by money and power rather than loyalty and honour.
Joly is also set to appear in director Lawrence Gray’s late 2013 crime comedy, Lust And Found, in addition to God Of Gamblers franchise follow-up, From Vegas To Macau on January 30, 2014, as well as with Caserto in the currently-filming Sino-Korean action thriller, Helios. You will also see actor Mamisashvili whose action choreography will be featured in the upcoming production of the all-female tournament MMA action opus, Lady Bloodsport starring Selina Lo.
