Production is now underway in the UK for Edgar Wright’s iteration of The Running Man. Hit Man and Twisters star Glen Powell is starring along with Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones and William H. Macy. An action classic reboot of the 1987 TriStar release with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wright takes a page from “Richard Bachman” to provide something much closer to pennamed author Stephen King’s 1982 novel. Wright penned with co-scribe Michael Bacall and is producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park for the film’s November 2025 release. Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel, The Running Man centres around a deadly game show in which one man must outrun professional killers over 30 days to win a cash prize and save his sick child. I remember going to see The Expendables over Scott Pilgrim vs. The World during both their theatrical runs happening simultaneously. I never got to check out the film on the big screen before its theatrical releases ended and was even more disappointed that a sequel didn’t follow eight after. The latter hasn’t really dimmed the cult fan fervor much in the years since then, and with the film getting an exclusive Dolby theatrical re-release soon, that fact is unlikely to change. Dolby launched its trailer on Wednesday with director Edgar Wright lending some lipservice of his own via social media, with Dolby announcing an April 30 release. Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s serial 2004 graphic novel out of Oni Press, Wright’s alluring hodgepodge of quirky coming-of-age comedy and martial arts-infused action deals in themes of introspection and self-discovery, by way of whimsical mixes of video game and comic book-style spectacle. Los Angeles’s biggest genre film festival is readying its slate for 12 days of celebrity and hit cinema with a variety of titles spanning fifty years of film fandom. Such is what will ensue on September 29 at the American Cinematheque for this year’s Beyond Fest with tickets on sale beginning Thursday, and all one could look forward to in films we’ve either grown up with in action and horror, to titles newly being discovered. Such films include Jean-Claude Van Damme classic, Double Impact as well as the first two episodes of upcoming Amazon series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, Schwarzenegger hit thriller The Running Man, Cambodian action romp, Jailbreak, Ted Geohegan’s new thriller, Mohawk and so much more. Not for nothing either with a raft of slated appearances by the likes of Van Damme and Schwarzenegger themselves, in addition to Vince Vaughn seeing to the premiere of RLJE Films’s most recent […]
Photo: Wes Klain It was back in 2014 when I first caught actor and stuntman R Marcos Taylor in Tony Clomax’s action short, Broken Angels. Needless to say, Taylor’s credits in film and TV date back further in a series of achievements that have seen him ascend more politically as an actor having debuted to award-winning status with the independent martial arts comedy, Paying Mr. McGetty, as well as co-starring roles in F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton and this summer’s release, Baby Driver. The latter, from Cornetto Trilogy helmer Edgar Wright has earned a total of $121 million dollars at the box office which surely makes for a neat addition to Taylor’s growing resumé. I managed to send some questions to Taylor who took some time to briefly answer some questions in the course of his busy schedule and rest assured, this won’t be the last we hear from […]
Already beholden to a number of positive reviews following its SXSW premiere this Spring, Edgar Wright’s latest, Baby Driver, is finally off to a June 28 theatrical release, and with a promotional campaign running virbrantly with a few trailers. Speaking of, of course, a brand new trailer is here and centrally themed on the soundtrack – a fitting tribute given the film’s premise about a young and talented getaway driver whose goals away from a life of crime are hindered when he’s pulled into a job that’s doomed to fail. Ansel Elgort stars in the film along with Jamie Foxx, Lily James and Kevin Spacey. An international version of the trailer can be viewed here, otherwise, the new official “TehKillYah” trailer is now online in the player below. It’s pretty solid and looks like a promising good time at the movies but… you don’t have to take just my word […]
Fresh from its premiere at SXSW comes Cornetto trilogy helmer Edgar Wright’s kinetic new heist thriller, Baby Driver. Ansel Elgort leads the cast for the film which has already reciprocated a spate of upworthy reviews ahead of the film’s August release, and for this, we get some terrific footage out of it in two new trailers, one domestic and one international and slightly longer. SYNOPSIS: A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Take your pick. You can’t lose! Also starring are Kevin Spacey, Lily […]
The long-gestating development of Paramount Pictures’s third installment in the rebooted Star Trek franchise is currently in-limbo over who will direct it. Roberto Orci, who helped write the first two films was long rumored to direct the film before stepping aside as Cornetto Trilogy helmer Edgar Wright became the most recent notable favorite to direct after filming a scene in last year’s Star Trek Into Darkness. The response has largely been positive for Wright after fans were saddened when he and Marvel hit a creative fork in the road back in May with potentially directing Ant-Man, and so it seems now fans have something substantive to look forward to the third film. However, you needn’t look further than the most recent news mentioning the name of actor and filmmaker Jonathan Frakes who is now on record “unabashedly” sharing his interest in directing Star Trek 3, according to Komo News. Frakes […]
The Wrap is reporting that actor Patrick Wilson is currently in negotiations for a role in writer/director Edgar Wright’s next film, Ant-Man. If confirmed, the actor whose recent appearances include horror hits like The Conjuring and Insidious 1 and 2 will star alongside actors Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with roles currently in the running for actor Michael Peña, as well as actress Evangeline Lily. Based on multifaceted comic book writer and publisher Stan Lee’s 1962 creation and co-written by Joe Cornish, the film will star Rudd as reformed thief and electronics expert Scott Lang who in years later, adapts the technology to become the titular superhero created conceived by biochemist Hank Pym (Douglas) whose earlier experiments brought him to discover subatomic particles that can allow a person to shrink down to the size of an insect, and also giving its owner the ability to control ants. The film is […]
I’ve been a bit lagged at sharing the trailer for Edgar Wright‘s latest film, THE WORLD’S END, but I love the stuff Wright has to offer on film. Actors Nick Frost and Simon Pegg have always made for one of the most memorable comedic film pairings in cinema history, and I think it’s fantastic that they are constantly upping the antee with every film they are in together. As such, I would definitely see this film on a night out with friends…followed by drinking, of course. Because the last thing anyone wants is a loud hysterical drunk in a movie theater. 😉 SYNOPSIS: Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them […]
