The network, founded by Hollywood filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, launched late last year with Univision, developing a slate of programming aimed at a multicultural audience, even so far as featuring an array of cult kung fu films. Deadline is reporting that a new announcement has been made for a new partnership between Univision Networks and FactoryMade for an upcoming Comcast cable network headed by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez called The El Rey Network. At an event in New York City on Tuesday, Rodriguez told the public “The El Ray Network is going to be the home of kick-ass entertainment,” To emphasize further, the network has brought on Star Trek writer/producer duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman to put together their own project, in addition to the television adaptation of Rodriguez’ 1996 cult Mexiploitation vampire action horror classic, From Dusk Til Dawn.
