• More than two years after landing at Sony Pictures and Arad Productions, Justin Lin is bouncing off of his former tenure on Fast X to direct an adaptation of One Punch Man from a script by Venom scribes Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Based on the hit manga from ONE and Yuskue Murata, One Punch Man centers on Saitama, an unassuming young man who joins the Hero Association for fun, only to be beleagured by his ability to knock out any supervillain with one punch. Anyone following director Miike Takashi’s movement in the last several years eventually came across news of what would have been HIS take on post WWII yakuza crime tale, The Outsider. By 2013, it was financed and ready to roll cameras in the following year when Miike left as well as its chosen actor at the time and having since reshaped itself a few years later with Martin Zandvliet at the helm for lead actor Jared Leto, The Outsider is now a forthcoming reality with a March 9 release exclusively on Netflix.
The new period crime thriller sees Leto starring as a American solider imprisoned by the Japanese during World War 2. When he succeeds in escaping with the help of his Yakuza cellmate, his freedom lures him into the dangerous criminal underworld, leaving him obligated and in service of the Yakuza in order to earn their respect amd repay his debt. Bastille Day scribe Andrew Baldwin penned the script which joins Leto with a raft of talent listing Emile Hirsch and Ichi The Killer pair Asano Tadanobu and Omori Nao.
Rounding out the cast are actors Raymond Nicholson and Shiina Kippei, Kingslaive: Final Fantasy XV voice actress and upcoming Deadpool 2 co-star, Australian/Japanese import Kutsuna Shioli, Hostiles co-star Rory Cochrane, and Blade Of The Immortal actor Tanaka Min. Check out the trailer!
Devil In My Ride helmer Gary Michael Schultz’s second directorial offering, Vincent N Roxxy, saw a small evolution before ultimately landing Emile Hirsch and Zoë Kravitz in their respective lead roles. Following its Tribeca premiere last month, Vertical Entertainment now has an official trailer online with a theatrical and digital release set for June 2.
If hip-hop and rock-n-roll had a love child, she would be Roxxy (Zoë Kravitz), an inner city girl in trouble. Vincent (Emile Hirsch) is a consummate loner from small town America searching for meaning in his life that has become intertwined with dangerous people. One morning, these two lost souls meet when a vicious killer attacks Roxxy on the street in broad daylight before a crowd of witnesses. Vincent tries to save her, forcing Vincent and Roxxy to go on the run for their lives. They soon learn violence will follow them everywhere, even as they unexpectedly fall in love.
