FCS interviews filmmaker Ernesto Díaz Espinoza!
DIABLO opens on June 13, starring Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, and Alanna De La Rosa
Scott Adkins shows no sign of slowing his output after John Wick 4 shone a significant spotlight on him, as his latest starring vehicle, DIABLO, goes into post-production. Helming the actioner is Ernesto Diaz Espinoza, a name that’s ended up on many “One to watch” lists after his last two efforts, Redeemer and The Fist of the Condor. Chilean powerhouse, Marko Zaror, also stars. Today, Deadline.com has reported that Diana Hoyos has also joined the cast. Hoyos, a veteran of Spanish tv, established herself as an action actress with roles in 2017’s Sniper: Ultimate Kill and Never Back Down Revolt from 2021. Plot details, according to Deadline: The film follows Kris Chaney (Adkins) who, after being released from prison, embarks on a perilous mission to fulfill an old promise but finds himself in danger when he kidnaps Elisa, the daughter of a powerful gangster. Her father, Vincent, puts out a […]
Dazzler Media is gearing up to release Ernesto Diaz Espinoza’s latest thriller, Fist Of The Condor, and DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download beginning October 2. Pre-orders are also available which you can find here. The first of a hopeful trilogy, Zaror stars in the lead role of a monastic warrior beholden to the secrets of an ancient martial arts style. The story explores his origins through training and the incumbent drama that envelopes him into a story of vengeance, forcing him to fend off waves of assassins and hungry henchmen until the day he can step face-to-face with the man trying to kill him: his evil twin brother. The film also stars Gina Aguad, Eyal Meyer, Fernanda Urrejola and Man Soo Yoon.
How’s this for another ‘triple threat’ of sorts? Actors and action superstars Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror will reunite for Diablo, from director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza, which rolls cameras later this year in Chile. The film teams Adkins up for the first time with Espinoza who has collaborated with Zaror on several genre hitmakers, firstly collaborating on 2006’s Kiltro which launched the Chilean martial arts star to leading man stardom. Deadline’s Zac Ntim reports: Plot follows Kris Chaney (Adkins) who, after being released from prison, embarks on a perilous mission to fulfill an old promise but finds himself in danger when he kidnaps Elisa, the daughter of a powerful gangster. Her father, Vincent, puts out a call to the entire criminal underworld to bring her back alive. El Corvo (Zaror), a psychopathic killer, joins the hunt not for the money but for his own vendetta against Vincent’s family. Kris must […]
Fist Of The Condor will commence the Alamo Drafthouse Fantastic Fest Presents series, opening exclusively in select Alamo Drafthouse locations on April 4 in the U.S.. Marko Zaror also will attend special screenings and live Q&A events at the Manhattan and Staten Island locations in New York City on April 4 and April 5, respectively, prior to the movie’s streaming release as a Hi-YAH! Original on April 7. Visit wellgousa.com for more information. The longstanding partnership between John Wick: Chapter 4 co-star of late Marko Zaror and Chilean writer/director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza continues its reign to this day, as the duo puts itself in a position to stay the course with martial arts adventure, Fist Of The Condor. The first in a coming trilogy of films, the film is split into chapters which explains why it is that earlier plans proposed included a possible web series to start with. Totaling […]
Genre fans in the U.S. are just a week away from the release of Fist Of The Condor, the latest from writer/director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza and action star Marko Zaror. TKD Life Magazine has uneviled an exclusive behind the scenes featurette which you can view at the bottom of the page, featuring Zaror in action along with the film’s cast, lending some insight into the characters and setups that comprise the story. Fist Of The Condor centers on the tale of a monastic martial arts journeyman whose quest to protect the ancient secrets of the fighting arts used against 16th century conquerors finds him a war that threatens to become more personal, endangering everything he’s worked for to become the warrior he long strived to be. Also starring are Gina Aguad, Eyal Meyer and Fernanda Urrejola, along with Jose Manuel and Francisco Castro, and with action sequences by Zaror himself. […]
It shouldn’t be forgotten that Ernesto Diaz Espinoza’s new martial arts action adventure, Fist Of The Condor, remains up in the air as a concept to drive an even bigger story beyond the current movie that now exists. Indeed I think it would be the dopest thing to see a full-on trilogy or franchise of some sort stemming from the concepts at play here, and I say this not yet having seen the film since it began its festival run earlier this year. Upon the empire’s fall to invading conquistadors, the 16th-century Incas quickly concealed a sacred manual containing the secrets behind their deadly fighting technique. But after centuries of careful safeguarding, the manual is again at risk of falling into the wrong hands, leaving its rightful guardian to battle the world’s greatest assassins to protect the ancient secrets within. That’s the wind-up-and-the-pitch right out of genre staple Well Go […]
It’s been at least seven years or more since international action star Marko Zaror and director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza have hit anyone’s radar following their 2014 hit, Redeemer. Nonetheless, fans will undoubtedly feel at home again once the festival circuits inaugurate the premiere of their fifth and latest outing together, The Fist Of The Condor: Part One. Espinoza directs from his own script with a story that tells of four martial artists from around the world, all in search of a book containing ancient secrets on overcoming the limits of the human body. That book and its very knowledge is protected by its most impenetrable gatekeeper, the chosen guardian himself portrayed by Zaror, who is joined by co-stars Eyal Meyer (To Late To Die Young) and Fernanda Urrejola (Cry Macho) along with Gina Aguad (Mirageman), Jose Manuel (El Testigo, The Man From Kathmandu) and Grandmaster Yoon Man-soo (Kiltro). Previous efforts […]
In the years since placing himself firmly on the martial arts action fandom radar with Ernesto Diaz Espinoza’s 2006 debut, Kiltro, one fact remains is that fans can’t get enough of Marko Zaror. It’s been fifteen years since then, with the two having already done three movies together with the latest being monastic action thriller, Redeemer (2014), and now they’re back together once again with the wheels turning for the new digital series, El Puño Del Condor (The Fist Of The Condor), which is currently in production in Chile. Extenuating plot and story details are under wraps for the series, but what I can report is that the crux of the series deals with martial artists from around the world, all in search of a book containing ancient secrets on overcoming the limits of the human body. That book and its very knowledge is protected by its most impenetrable gatekeeper, […]
I can’t say much on why it took so long for Chile to finally get a release for director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza‘s most recent martial arts action thriller, Redeemer. Nevertheless, the film finally has a release set for December 3, and hopefully Chileans have taken heed to the good press this film has already gotten since its Fantastic Fest debut late last year. And what’s more, it’s the native terriory of action star Marko Zaror who cut his teeth as a stuntman prior to blowing the lid off of Chilean martial arts action with films like Kiltro and MirageMan. Here, he’s a badass vigilante on a self-destructive path of redemption which eventually takes an interesting turn when his past catches up, leading to an epic showdown in a barrage of fistcuffs and tornado kicks to the face. All well and good, yes? And this is far from all we’ll see […]
Yes, I fully admit to being invariably biased when it comes to specific action film titles. Ernesto Diaz Espinoza‘s festival favorite and recent Dark Sky Films U.S. release, Redeemer, fits the mold with Chilean action hero Marko Zaror starring in the title role of a man seeking redemption for his previous atrocities through dispensing unmitigated vigilante justice. Zaror dominates the film with sheer veracity in his choreography and performance with long time martial arts and film cohort and friend, actor José Luis Mosca in the role of the principal killer villain, and you can read all about it in my 2014 review, as well as my earlier interview with Zaror back in May. There’s plenty more where that came from in what lies ahead for Zaror with the current post-production and pending release of family superhero action adventure, The Green Ghost. For now though, we have close to ten years […]
It’s been well over a decade since Chilean martial artist and stuntman Marko Zaror transitioned his career, thus landing in our sights with his debut role in the action-packed feature, Kiltro. Billed as the first South American film of its kind, it helped put Zaror and its director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza on the map toward greatness as the two forged a path through film that would ultimately see them become festival favorites by and large. Nowadays, Zaror‘s fourth film with Espinoza, Redeemer, is on the cusp of releasing to North American audiences next month, and it’s a real pleasure to still see films like this exist for the big screen, even as films like these are allocated to limited targeted metropolitan theater chains and VoD/digital platforms. Zaror and action stars like him don’t get the mainstream treatment that Hollywood once gave to the genre in the 1990’s when movie goers […]
Don’t drop the ball on international action star Marko Zaror. He’s still keeping busy with several titles well on the way and it’s a only matter of time before the news breaks on those matters. At the moment though, you’re advised to pay close attention and witness the awesomeness now seen in the newest trailer for Zaror‘s 2014 film festival favorite, Redeemer, forging a path once more for the martial arts action genre to reign supreme on the big screen once again, and this time for more audiences. SYNOPSIS: In this pulse-pounding actioner, an ex-hitman (martial arts master Marko Zaror) seeks redemption for his sins by meting out violent justice to those who would prey on the innocent. Known on the streets as the Redeemer, Pardo is a vigilante desperate for redemption and earns it by offering criminals the chance to ask forgiveness for their crimes or pay the ultimate […]
We’re still a ways from Santiago Violenta helmer Ernesto Diaz Espinoza‘s latest stint with Chilean action hero, actor Marko Zaror in the bilingual revenge opus, Redeemer, following its stellar film festival run late last year. At any rate, the film is getting release in North America from MPI Media’s Dark Sky Films this summer with a date pending, and with an initial trailer already online, we now have a new poster making the rounds from the folks at XYZ Films who also produced the film. Take a look SYNOPSIS: Marko Zaror is Pardo, a man with a heavy burden on his soul, looking for a way to atone for his past sins. As a vigilante, he stops criminals in their tracks and gives them only one chance to ask for forgiveness. Bad guys being bad guys, they rarely listen, and so Pardo disposes of them in any gruesome way available […]
Well, the wait is over and the official trailer is out for director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza‘s brand new martial arts actioner and film festival favorite, Redeemer. It’s the next major step in the genre for fans who have followed Zaror‘s stellar career since breaking ground in 2006 with Kiltro and following through ever since, each showcasing Zaror‘s screenfighting prowess in electrifying fashion, and with a synopsis such as what reads after the jump, it’s a perfect setup to achieve the same. It really is. I should know. I happily reviewed it! SYNOPSIS: Marko Zaror is Pardo, a man with a heavy burden on his soul, looking for a way to atone for his past sins. As a vigilante, he stops criminals in their tracks and gives them only one chance to ask for forgiveness. Bad guys being bad guys, they rarely listen, and so Pardo disposes of them in any […]
Seeing authentic, awesome martial arts action on the big screen is a dream as many of these kinds of films lately end up on the small screen. Very few make it to larger venues though, many of them which happen to be small-scale theatrical releases in some capacity. Granted, it’s a start, and can prove to be as memorable and exciting an experience when you’re in a room with the right crowd. That said, if you’re a Marko Zaror fan, then gear up with as many like-minded individuals as possible, because the Chilean martial arts action star is coming to North America with the release of his newest revenge flick, Redeemer. Yahoo reports via The Wrap that MPI Media Group has attained all U.S. distribution rights to the film for a summer 2015 release via its genre subsidiary, Dark Sky Films. Filmmaker Ernesto Diaz Espinoza reunites with Zaror to direct […]
SYNOPSIS: Former hitman Nicky Pardo (Zaror) has made a deal with God. Pardo will begin every day by holding a gun to his own head and pulling the trigger. And every day he does not die he will take it as a sign that he is meant to continue hunting down the men he used to work for. REVIEW: By no means are your options limited here, particularly if you are a fan of the martial arts genre and always looking forward to something great to see. This was a lesson learned in my own evolution as a follower of these films while growing up, and as time passed, more and more talent has continued to emerge and drawing the attention of fans almost everywhere. Obviously this couldn’t be possible without the evolution of the internet, a tool that generally removes almost all boundaries so people can share a piece […]
At the moment, this Twitchfilm exclusive clip above is the only available glimpse we get to see into the latest upcoming martial arts action spectacle, Redeemer, following the first official stills back in May. Once more, the film pairs writer and director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza with martial artist, actor, producer and action director Marko Zaror following their previous work on Zaror’s breakout cult hit, Kiltro (2006), and Mandrill (2009), and is garnering mostly positive reviews in the past few weeks, seemingly promising another stellar move forward into the genre following its premiere at Fantastic Fest last month. Gladly, we now have a brand new poster which you can now check out just below, preceding festival contributor Brian Kelley‘s description of the film: Marko Zaror is Pardo, a man with a heavy burden on his soul, looking for a way to atone for his past sins. As a vigilante, he stops […]
Martial arts action powerhouse Marko Zaror can now be seen in a handful of new set photos from the upcoming release of his next thriller, Redeemer, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. The new photos arrive a little over a month after the film’s production was officially made public via press release back in late March, with Zaror in his fourth go-around with writer, co-producer and director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza since the 2006 film, Kiltro. Redeemer has since reportedly wrapped with the usual post-production work left to be completed. With any luck, the film could head to Fantastic Fest this year, but for now it’s too soon to say. SYNOPSIS: Former hitman Nicky Pardo (Zaror) has made a deal with God. Pardo will begin every day by holding a gun to his own head and pulling the trigger. And every day he does not die he will take it as a […]
