F9: Han’s Death, His Return, And What It Means For A Franchise That Now Tinkers With Its Own Meta-Silliness

For years we’ve grown accustomed to the rank silliness and sheer bluster and spectacle of the Fast And Furious movies. All twenty years of them. The latest installment of the saga, F9 is no different, though with several exceptions that pertain to any reverence, sympathy or engagement into the drama and the characters, story and twists that occur. Skipping the plot details and just short of devoting my time to a full review, and while there is a LOT to pick apart from the new film, my biggest gripe has plenty to do with its identity as a franchise, especially with the year-old spoilery reveal of Sung Kang’s character, Han, whose hinted survival in last year’s trailer now precludes a twist in the newly-released film that shows how his death was staged as a precursor to the larger role he plays in the events that unfold. The Tenth FAST AND FURIOUS Will Be Filmed In Two Parts Starting Next January

The ninth chapter of the Fast saga, F9, arrives this weekend in North America, just as it continues to make a killing with earnings of well over $293 million dollars, internationally. With that, the trajectory is a hopeful one that stands pretty tall for Universal Pictures who have long since plotted a course for there to be a decalogy of films, now with word that the tenth installment, according to franchise star and producer Vin Diesel will shoot the next film in two parts beginning in January. “I’m doing Fast ten, part one and part two, the finale of the saga in January.” Diesel tells Regal Movies reporter Matthew Hoffman. The trailer launch on Friday makes that all but clear, on top of at least one other major reveal, now confirmed and much to the delight of anyone who has heard the rumor. F9: The First Poster Signals The Ninth Installment Of ‘The Fast Saga’ Ahead Of Trailer Launch

The first official teaser poster is live for the ninth installment of Universal’s five-billion dollar success story, The Fast Saga. The poster comes ahead of the first trailer which arrives on Friday after 3pm EST/12pm PST, following a star-studded concert billed as ‘The Road To F9’. Justin Lin is back at the helm with actor Vin Diesel leading a cast that fans can expect will be a mix of new faces and regulars, including Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and John Cena to name a few. May 22 is opening day from Universal Pictures marking the first of what’s expected to be a two-part finale that concludes in 2021. Peep the poster below and stay tuned!
