The sixten words I long to hear most: “I’m putting together a team and you’re the best in the world at what you do.” Okay, if I actually heard that line, I’d probably cut the speaker off after the first 5 words and volunteer to join no matter what the role. Have I mentioned I love heist movies? So, as you can tell, the official The 355 trailer has dropped and has a very heist-y feel for an espionage pic: Mace (Jessica Chastain) is told that she can’t officially look into something, so puts together a diverse team of intelligence agents from other countries including Colombia, Great Britain, China, and Germany. So what’s the goal? Well, let’s follow the synopsis, for starters: When a top-secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown (Oscar®-nominated actress Jessica Chastain) will need to join forces with rival badass German […]
Variety reports that Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days Of Future Past, The White-Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdon) will yet see her starring alongside her colleagues in the female spy ensemble, 355. The news comes just as the actress has since emerged from obscurity following a disappearance from the public for several months – part of the extensive fallout she’s faced amid China’s sprawling crackdown on tax evasion last year. With 355, Bingbing re-officiates her position with headliners Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. Simon Kinberg (upcoming Dark Phoenix) will direct the project from a screenplay by Theresa Rebeck described as a “large-scale espionage film about international agents in a grounded, edgy action thriller”. Universal acquired the film last summer at Cannes for a $20 million deal with Chastain set to star, as well as produce via her Freckle Films banner. Question remains, however, as to who will help […]
Mike Fleming Jr.’s exclusive at Deadline brings news of an all-star female line-up being readied for spy espionage ensemble, 355, penned by screenwriter Theresa Rebeck. Actresses Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Fan Bingbing and this week’s starring addition to John Woo’s The Killer, Lupita Nyong’o are all being circled for the project which will be announced at Cannes with the cast, and director Simon Kinberg in attendance at the Croisette. The film involves these top agents from organizations around the world uniting to stop a global organization from acquiring a weapon that could plunge an already unstable world into total chaos. They have to overcome cultural and political differences to form a bond and work together. 355 is aiming for what Deadline describes as “a grounded, edgy action thriller” that will not only launch a franchise, but also reshape an oft male-dominated genre with a female-centric cast in the vein […]
The Hollywood Reporter is offering its first look at actor Bruce Willis in the upcoming World War 2 action drama, The Bombing. The new photo comes just as Blue Box International has launched sales at the American Film Market this week ahead of a hopeful 2D and 3D China release early next year. Based on the infamous air raid attack on Chongqing during WW II, US Air Force Commander Jack Johnson (Willis) trains the Chinese people under harrowing conditions how to battle against the Japanese and leads his own aviation squadron against the trained Japanese Air Force. The film, currently in post-production, hit a stalemate with investors last summer which led to a delay in its China release. Xiao Feng (Hushed Roar) directs with art direction led by Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge), joining Willis with Bingbing Fan (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Iron Man 3) and Nicholas Tse (The Stool […]
China isn’t falling asleep at all these days. Riding the coat tails of its successes in military-centric cinema, we now have actor Li Chen (Chronicles Of The Ghostly Tribe) who has since taken the mantle with his own directorial debut on Sky Hunter, currently poised for a September 29 release in China. The film is a first for the middle kingdom’s film industry, backed by the PLA as a premiere aerial warfare action thriller centered on a team of Chinese Air Force pilots protecting their country against outside threats. Nationalism aside, the film’s look and tone so far play out as very pleasing in shots of gravity defying dogfights to accomodate the desired military might. The film is produced by Lv Jianmin who also produced Wolf Warrior and its current hit box office sequel which leaves reason to hope this one will strike similar accolades. Also starring are Fan Bingbing, […]
Not to subject itself too much to period pieces to stand on its own, China’s latest propaganda push is going vertical this year in Chronicles Of The Ghostly Tribe star Li Chen’s latest, Sky Hunter. There’s not much in terms of an available plot here but the first teaser is now online with lots of military muscle and might to gin up attention, along with some starpower joinihg Chen with actress Fan Bingbing and actor Wang Qianyuan. It’s China’s first aerial warfare film at that so this ought to definitely put some butts in seats when the film opens on September 30. Good on the PLA if that’s the case, provided the film stands critically on its own merit. Peep the teaser below.
The wait’s been long enough for director Renny Harlin’s latest, Skiptrace, to begin going hardcore on its promotional campaign. Now we’re here and with a China release set for July 22, a brand new trailer is here to lay claim for fans hard-up for another Jackie Chan headliner. Chan stars as a flatfoot whose chance meeting with a con artist, played by Johnny Knoxville, forces the two to help bring down a major crime boss. Also starring are Fan Bingbing, Zhang Lanxin, Eric Tsang, and actress and former WWE starlet Eve Torres whose role (and is that a Russian accent we’re hearing??) is much ado with some of the blooper antics in both the trailer, which is very high-energy, and the featurette just beneath. Check both out now!
