SNAKE EYES: G.I. Joe Spin-Off Taps ‘Bright’ Sequel Writer

Paramount Anyone’s guess outside the studio circuit is as good as mine at this point regarding what lies ahead with a third G.I.Joe film; Murmurs of Dwayne Johnson circling working title, Ever Vigilant, may ring a bell for those keen on recent news over at That Hashtag Show which should keep fans of The Rock amply pleased. It’s worth noting Hasbro’s recent efforts toward IP expansion on its various properties other than Transformers, and we’ve yet to hear more than what we’ve been given with respect to current scripting and development efforts. Paramount Scores Dates For Third G.I. JOE Film And Three Other Titles

It’s been about four years since the protracted 3D post-production and release of Jon M. Chu’s highly-received sequel adaptation, G.I. Joe: Retaliation for Paramount Pictures. Prospects have since remained lagging for the film franchise itself since launching in 2009 with The Rise Of Cobra under Stephen Sommers, albeit upward nonetheless with actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson having all but ascended his way through to having his own star etched on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. With that in mind, Hasbro has also been busy in the last few years with the advancement of its own Hasbro-based movieverse in which to include the G.I. Joe saga along with its other properties: namely Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM. There isn’t much news happening regarding Paramount’s G.I. Joe 3, even though it has already swapped a few hands between at least two directors, namely Jon M. Chu who took the reigns for the 2013 sequel, and Martin Campbell as of last November. Since then, news moved forward with Eagle Eye and I Am Number Four helmer D.J. Caruso who is now apparently in talks to direct. Depending on whether or not you enjoyed either of Caruso‘s films mentioned above, the director definitely has the chops to continue the evolved vision from both films, adding sci-fi with that extra touch of stellar action and hi-tech espionage to boot that made the second film so enjoyable to watch. Martin Campbell may be much busier going into 2015 if earlier reports serve as a good enough indicator. Variety reports the director’s name is back in the spotlight for another new action vehicle with Sebastian X from Voltage Pictures and Gale Anne Hurd’s Vallhala Motion Pictures. Deja Vu scribe Bill Marsilii is adapting the property based on the original Humanoids graphic novel publication of the same name by author Michelangelo La Neve and illustrator Stuart Immonen. Published in 2005, the story of Sebastian X kicks off with an elite cop who, upon surviving a near-fatal injury, is implanted with the memories of a world-class terrorist in order to infiltrate his group and foil their next attack. As you might expect, there may be more to this story as they adapt the character for the big screen, so its pretty plausible to not take it at face value just yet. If […]

Depending on how you may feel about the recent live-action renditions of Hasbro property, G.I. Joe, it’s probably about time we finally got another step closer to some news on the third film in the franchise. Over the course of the past few years, directing prospects went to Jon M. Chu who sat behind the camera for the 2013 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation following helmer Stephen Sommers’s 2009 flick, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. Of course, that was before he moved back to doing movie musicals like the upcoming Jem And The Holograms and the recently announced Can’t Touch This, and so on that word, the latest filmmaker now being sought after is Green Lantern, Goldeneye and Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell. IGN confirmed this week that actress Adriene Palicki will star once again in the upcoming third installment of Hasbro’s G.I. Joe film franchise from Paramount. The news came admist an interview with the actress on the set of her next action film with Keanu Reeves, John Wick, where she reflects on being one of the most sought-after actresses for action movies, as well as her time filming and potentially starring in NBC’s television rendition of the iconic DC Comics heroine, Wonder Woman, prior to the show’s last-minute cancellation; That role has since gone to actress Gal Gadot for the big screen release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman vs. Superman movie. With Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick moving on from G.I. Joe: Retaliation to the waiting-in-limbo comic book adaptation of characters Deadpool and Venom, production for G.I. Joe 3 will bring screenwriter Evan Daugherty on board. The report from THR comes in roughly three months after director Jon M. Chu announced the film back in July with Retaliation co-stars Bruce Willis and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed to return, while a writer was still being “narrowed down”. G.I. Joe: Retaliation premiered on March 29, 2013, nine months after its release date in which Chu decided the film needed a “conscientious” 3D conversion. Evidently, Retaliation, and its predecessor, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, earned well over $600 million dollars at the box office despite the word of critics, with Rotten Tomatoes handing the first and second film a 34% and 28% rating, respectively.
