Universal’s Female-Led FAST Spin-Off Gets Marvel And Hasbro Writers

It appears Universal is steadfast on testing the shelflife of the long-running Fast saga since landing in 2001 with Rob Cohen at the helm. Eighteen years, eight films and well over $5.1 billion dollars at the box office later, the franchise has rewarded itself by entering spin-off territory with now two titles forthwith. This week, franchise star Vin Diesel took to Instagram to announce an all-female trinity of screenwriting talent in the form of Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. ARTEMIS: ‘Silver And Black’ And ‘Captain Marvel’ Scribe To Adapt Andy Weir Novel For Fox

Sony/Marvel project Silver & Black may still have a ways to go before actually getting the ball rolling with Gina Prince-Bythewood set to direct. Its screenwriter, however, isn’t holding back on her involvement with several major IP titles still in embryotic and development stages. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Captain Marvel) is taking to the keyboard once more to script an adaptation of Artemis, Andy Weir’s 2017 novel and follow-up to his debut bestseller, The Martian. As Mike Fleming Jr. noted exclusively at Deadline, Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) are reportedly being tapped to helm the film for Fox whose Simon Kinberg will produce with Adita Sood at New Regency. SILVER & BLACK Lands Two Screenwriters For A Spring Start Date

Sony’s upcoming incarnation, Silver & Black, has reportedly landed two prime screenwriters in the form of Lindsey Beer (upcoming Chaos Walking) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (upcoming Tomb Raider), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both are following up from a previous draft written by Thor scribe Christopher Yost who preceded that of writer Gina Prince Bythewood (The Secret Life Of Bees) who is set to direct. Previous reports in the past few months from sites including The Hashtag Show and Omega Underground have revealed that principal photography is set to commence this March through June under the working title “Tri-Border”, with locations in Atlanta, Georgia along with some scenes in Mexico.
