GKIDS is partnering with Fathom Events for a limited theatrical run of Satoshi Kon’s animated classic delight, Tokyo Godfathers. Tickets are still available for the film’s newly-restored 4K presentation on March 9 and March 11. The film marks a second offering between the paired companies since the select re-release of Kon’s Perfect Blue. The legendary animator was posthumously honored last month with the Windsor McKay Award by ASIFA-Hollywood at this year’s Annie Awards ceremony. Kon passed away in 2010 at the age of 46. Makoto Shinkai’s newest anime, Weathering With You, previously opened in Japan cinemas on July 19 from Toho. The film scored well over $125 million dollars upon its local release and now stands as Japan’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
