However, an argument ensues between them – Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings, and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. It was last fall GKIDS acquired Unicorn Wars, the second animated feature from Goya Award-Winning director Alberto Vázquez. That now brings us to the brand new trailer ahead of the film’s digital and select-theatrical release on March 10. You can check out the trailer just beneath the plot description along with a small batch of stills from the distributor. It’s Bambi meets Apocalypse Now in this provocative and strangely beautiful horror comedy from acclaimed filmmaker and illustrator Alberto Vazquez (Birdboy: The Forgotten Children), who uses its outrageous candy-colored premise to explore religious zealotry, the tortured legacies of military fascism, and the depths of the soul. For ages, teddy bears have been locked in an ancestral war against their sworn enemy, the unicorns, with the promise that victory will complete the prophecy and usher in a new era. Aggressive, confident teddy bear Bluet and his sensitive, withdrawn brother Tubby could not […]

While my own anime intake since 2016 has slowed down greatly in recent memory, that hasn’t discouraged me from plotting further viewing, and rest assured, I know I have my work cut out for me when it comes to Lupin the Third. The franchise, hailing from Monkey Punch fifty years since the birth of the manga and subsequent anime, returns to screens with Lupin III: The First, from Returner and Parasyte 1 & 2 director Takashi Yamazaki. The iconic “gentleman thief” Lupin III returns in an action-packed, continent-spanning adventure, as Lupin III and his colorful underworld companions race to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Bresson Diary, before it falls into the hands of a dark cabal that will stop at nothing to resurrect the Third Reich. The gang undertakes trap-filled tombs, aerial escapades and daring prison escapes with the trademark wit and visual finesse that have made LUPIN THE 3RD one […]

Parisian animator Denis Do has been in the professional game for several years now with some notable work to his name; the 2017 horror comedy, Zombillenium from film duo Arthur de Pins and Alexis Ducord may come to mind as would Rémi Chayé’s own award-winning animated directorial debut, Long Way North. For this and all else, Do’s creative stride now aims for the ethereal with Funan, set during the Khmer Rogue and pursuant with a touching story penned by himself and screenwriter Magali Pouzol. GKids is readying event screenings this summer at New York City’s IFC Center on June 7, and at the Laemmle Glendale in California on June 14.
