I don’t know the full history of the upcoming action adventure comedy, The Treasure, save for its previous title and its expected 2015 release at the time. Beyond that, what we at least now have is a completed film aiming for a local November 2 release from Distribution Workshop, marking the latest directorial paring between Gordon Chan and Ronald Cheng, the latter who also stars. Jau (Ronald CHENG) is transported back to the Qing Dynasty to rewrite his unsuccessful life via time machine. He sets off on his treasure hunting adventure in South China Seas as the legendary notorious pirate, CHEUNG Po Tsai. Joining him on screen are Dayo Wong and actress Fala Chen, all in a 3D setting to augment the swashbuckling spectacle to come. The latest teaser trailer is here as well, so take a look!
Well Go USA is proudly bringing North American Asian cinephiles up to speed with Gordon Chan’s latest, God Of War. The film is slated for limited theatrical releases on June 2 and their latest trailer isn’t much different from the marketing of its China release, but…it’s Sammo Hung, Vincent Zhao and Kurata Yasuaki leading the way here so who can argue? During the 16th century, pirates rule the Chinese coastline, pillaging the small villages and terrorizing the citizens. When maverick leader Commander Yu (martial arts legend Sammo Hung) enlists the help of a sharp young general (Vincent Zhao), they devise a plan to defeat the pirates. A violent clash of wit and weapons will decide who will rule the land in this sweeping historical epic from veteran action director Gordon Chan. Head over to the official Well Go USA website for locations in the U.S. and Canada. The new trailer […]
I can’t speak too highly of what we’re sampling these days in director Gordon Chan’s new movie, God Of War. It looks pretty dull and unappealing and doesn’t really boast anything slick or eye-popping, although I suppose the additions of Vincent Zhao, Sammo Hung and Kurata Yasuaki for this 16th century tale of Chinese soldiers battling Japanese pirates helps with the much-needed fan service a bit. The legend of the famous Chinese military general of the Ming dynasty, Qi Jiguang, who leads the Ming forces to defend the eastern coast of China from raids by the Japanese pirates. During the late Ming period, corruption within the local government and repeated invasions at the Chinese coast left soldiers in low morale and local villagers living in misery. General Qi, together with Yu Dayou, stepped in with their recruitment of three thousand Yiwu villagers. In just a few days of disciplined trainingby […]
Asian action star Vincent Zhou’s career is one that’s been on the low signal end of things for a few years now. Thankfully he’s one that’s popped up from time to time with recent titles like True Legend, Wu Dang, The Boundary and The White-Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdom, as I’ve been a fan of his work since having spied a few of his earlier hits like Fong Sai Yuk 2, The Blacksheep Affair and Fist Power. Soon enough, he’ll be launching a full scale period epic assault on our senses with director Gordon Chan (2000 A.D., Legend Of The Fist: The Return Of Chen Zhen, The Four trilogy) for the new thriller, God Of War which opens in March of next year. Post production is underway for the film with news now out of Toronto from Variety that the film has officially been picked up for multiple English-speaking territories […]
I spent my Christmas weekend catching up on quite a few titles, including Hung Yan Yan’s 2008 directorial effort, Coweb (unfortunately granted the U.S. title of Ninja Masters by Lionsgate). The film wasn’t exactly the best I’ve seen save for some of the amazing action sequences, but it’s certainly a milestone for actress Jiang Luxia who has continued starring in a fair share of actioners in one role another. Needless to say, it’s quite rewarding that we’ll be seeing more of her in 2016, particularly returning among the likes of action director and co-star Sammo Hung for Gordon Chan’s The God Of War. Filming is still underway with action star Vincent Zhao joining her fellow Once Upon A Time In Shanghai co-star Hung and fellow action star Kurata Yasuaki with a period story that sees a Ming general and a Shaolin master train an army to fight Japanese pirates on […]
Courtesy of MTime We’re more than a month since director Gordon Chan began filming his newest, God Of War, with a report that gave us an early look at actor Vincent Zhao starring. Bona Film Group’s own Yu Dong is producing the film and slowly but surely, just a few more details are finally trickling with several more pictures highlighting cast and costumes. Sammo Hung, his son – actor Timmy Hung, and fellow action legend, Kurata Yasuaki, are joining the new period flick with a script co-written by Chan which forsees Zhao and Hung in the respective roles of Ming general Qi Jiguang and Shaolin Master/General Yu Dayou as they prepare an army to fight Japanese pirates on Eastern coast of China; That’s about as far as the plot goes at this point until further details are finally made clear, but whatever happens, Hung himself will be styling the action […]
Courtesy of MTime It’s been about a year since actor and action star Vincent Zhao has been active. Thankfully nowadays the White Haired Witch Of Lunar Mountain co-star can be seen in costume for director Gordon Chan in the new period epic loosely titled, The God Of War. The film has apparently just begun shooting with a script that focuses on a general who trains an army to fight back against Japanese pirates. Chan reunites with action choreographer Ku Huan-Chiu, the latter whose most recent credits include Chinese box office hit, Monster Hunt and A Monk Comes Down The Mountain, as well as Chan’s own fantasy trilogy, The Four, and a bit more on the upcoming AMC series, Into The Badlands. Currently there’s no other info as things are a bit early but a release is obviously likely for next year while we get a glimpse at Zhao suited for […]
Not too far off from its August 22 release is director Gordon Chan‘s epic fantasy martial arts action thriller finale, The Four 3D. I haven’t seen either of the first two films yet to have an opinion about this particular franchise, although I will say that while these films may not be a favorite for some, needless to say, its success speaks for itself. Chan clearly aims to dazzle throughout his epic storytelling, and the latest official trailer following last week’s teaser is an extension of that very courtesy. Besides, who can really resist a battle between good and evil that looks this awesome? SYNOPSIS: The reputation of the Four constables survives, but since Emotionless’s (Crystal Liu Yifei) departure, there have been changes at the Divine Constabulary. The four Coldblood (Deng Chao), Iron Hands (Collin Chou), Life Snatcher (Ronald Cheng), rescue Zhuge Zhengwo (Anthony Wong) from An Yunshan’s mountain fortress, […]
Enlight Pictures got the week started with the brand new teaser for the forthcoming finale of the Gordon Chan-directed trilogy, The Four 3D, in addition to a slate of stills from the film. On Tuesday, the push continued as fans and followers of the film were granted a look at eleven new posters, including nine one-sheets featuring the main cast. SYNOPSIS: The reputation of the Four constables survives, but since Emotionless’s (Crystal Liu Yifei) departure, there have been changes at the Divine Constabulary. The four Coldblood (Deng Chao), Iron Hands (Collin Chou), Life Snatcher (Ronald Cheng), rescue Zhuge Zhengwo (Anthony Wong) from An Yunshan’s mountain fortress, then with the Emperor and Di armies, they attack. But An Yunshan absorbs their power, which means the constables and their allies now face their most lethal opponent yet, a nearly invincible kung fu master who won’t stop until he has absolute power… Jiang […]
Banking on his promise to deliver a full trilogy as of a few years ago, director Gordon Chan has returned to the fray with the latest teaser for The Four 3D, featuring the return of our cast including Deng Chao, Crystal Liu, Anthony Wong and many more. The film marks the final installation of the franchise based on a series of novels by Malaysian author Wen Ruian about four unique detectives who use their skills to solve unsolvable crimes and apprehend powerful criminals, incidentally swept into what the film deems as their final battle with an ultimate evil force. SYNOPSIS: The reputation of the Four constables survives, but since Emotionless’s (Crystal Liu Yifei) departure, there have been changes at the Divine Constabulary. The four Coldblood (Deng Chao), Iron Hands (Collin Chou), Life Snatcher (Ronald Cheng), rescue Zhuge Zhengwo (Anthony Wong) from An Yunshan’s mountain fortress, then with the Emperor and […]
It will be a while before Hong Kong Cinema fans will get the pleasure of watching action star Collin Chou (The Matrix 2 & 3, The Forbidden Kingdom) in the latest and long-awaited Donnie Yen action headliner, Special Identity, and hopefully a slightly shorter wait with the impending release of Badges Of Fury with Jet Li. Until then, fans are just days away from the release of Well Go’s latest import from writer/producer/directors Gordon Chan (Fist Of Legend) and Janet Chun, The Four, where Chou is also joined by Deng Chao, Ronald Cheng, Crystal Liu and Anthony Wong. The film was also produced by Abe Kwong, as well as written for the screen by Maria Wong and Frankie Tam, based on a series of novels by Wen Ruian. The news comes long after the film’s domestic release earned over 100 million yuan, signifying the film as a box office success […]
