Prolific stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmmaker Chad Stahelski has had his name thrown in the mix for a plethora of titles, whilst working to build what he’s helped contribute in the current four-part Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise for Lionsgate. HIGHLANDER: Script Complete, Pre-Production Begins This Fall
Nearly ten years since Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to longstanding cult classic, Highlander, trade sites are now reporting that Rampage scribe Ryan Condal has turned in a script that has met the studio’s approval. The news brings movement closer to pre-production this October for a 2019 release date to be determined thereafter following director Chad Stahelski’s completion of John Wick: Chapter Three. Stahelski was attached to the film officially back in November 2016 after years of casting rumors and circulation of the projects among several scribes and potential directors. HIGHLANDER Gets 4K Edinburgh Premiere Before UK Blu-Ray Release
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I would love to see actor Clancy Brown reprise Sean Connery’s role as Ramirez in a possible remake of Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 cult fantasy hit, Highlander. Brown, who played the villainous Kurgan in the original film made the case recently in a chat with the good folks at Total Film and to me, it would be very pleasing as a fan. The Huntsman helmer Cedric Nicolas-Troyan has been on board to direct for a couple of years now while we await further developments on it. In the meantime, the 30th anniversary of the film’s release is looming and the Edinburgh Film Festival is ready to make a thing of it on June 18 with the film’s premiere, restored in pristine 4K and given the same treatment for its upcoming Blu-Ray release on July 11 in the U.K.. In 1986, you likely wouldn’t have guessed that director Russell Mulcahy’s fantasy swordplay actioner, Highlander, would live to see a cult following after earning low numbers upon its release. Fortunately however, it accomplished just that, with the addition of television shows and enough continual theatrical flops that would make one wonder just why these films were ever made. Needless to say, while the concept of immortals doing battle throughout time is still a wonderful concept to play with, it is also one that has drawn a huge fanbase. A new announcement this week with reports from Deadline breathed life back into the news of Summit Entertainment film reboot for Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 fantasy swordplay action thriller, Highlander. While Snow White And The Huntsman still awaits a sequel, the VFX supervisor and second unit director for the first film, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, has been granted his first directorial debut here, for the screenplay from Iron Man writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, Neal H. Moritz who will be sharing producer credits with the original television and film series producer Peter Davis, and Justin Lin who will executive produce. Some people still share differing opinions on Hollywood remakes of previous films and other mediums.
