HIT GIRLS: Maria Tran’s Award-Winning Aussie Action Short Now In Feature Film Development

Still in the midst of completing her latest documentary, actress, martial artist and filmmaker Maria Tran (Enter The Dojo, Gaffa, Hong Kong Shogun) is also tacking on a feature-film adaptation of her decorated 2013 action short, Hit Girls, penning the script with screenwriter Elizabeth H. Vu (Mr. Ghost, The Perception). The announcement comes five years since Tran headlined the award-winning short with actress and martial arts star JuJu Chan, which she also directed with film partner and co-helmer Adrian Castro. The folks over at Fideo Films and Jusmedia in Australia are back at it with the latest public release of the new shortfilm follow-up, Enter The Dojo 2. Not to be confused with actor Matt Page’s similarly named comedic webseries, this one is the second in an on-going short miniseries from producer and actress Maria Tran, and writer and director Adrian Castro, the same duo that brought you shortfilm hits such as, Hit Girls and Gaffa. Featuring fight choreography by Trung Ly, Enter The Dojo originally started off as a titular “test shoot” that unveiled online roughly a year and a half ago with a story filled with amazing physical kung fu comedy and over-the-top gags, featuring Tran as a master martial arts sensei forced to discipline bumbling thugs that cross her path. Following the unveiling of a new fight clip and hitting the press in China, we now have the new trailer for the upcoming martial arts action thriller, Fist Of The Dragon, a Hong Kong action remake of the 2000 Don Wilson action vehicle, Moving Target, both from producer Roger Corman. The film sees former Strikeforce World Lightweight Champion, Josh “The Punk” Thomson making his screen debut in the new film, with Juju Chan back on the set with director Antony Szeto since the recent release of the horror thriller, Hell’s Haunted Palace. Also starring are Chan’s fellow Hit Girl co-star Maria Tran, actress Ellary Porterfield, actors Daniel Whyte and the EMC Monkeys’ own Xin Sarith Wuku, along with Jason Yau, Danny Chan, Gary Wong, Michael Chan, Ricksen Tam, Andrew Dasz and Kwong-Keung Kong. In this case, it’s two balloon factor sweatshop workers who can’t stand each other, and get caught up in an epic old school kung fu brawl, loaded with comedy, high jinx, and lots, and lots, and LOTS of tape. Just in time for Halloween, the creative minds behind the early 2013 indie action Girls With Guns martial arts comedy short, Hit Girls have switched gears with their new digital sci-fi action horror webseries, Hidden Peaks. The new webseries began production in early 2012 from a story and screenplay from lead actor Laurent Boiteux who takes you in a world flooded in deapair, where the guns are big, but the screams get bigger, and only a handful of armed survivors must solve the mystery behind this new age of darkness, if they can stay alive long enough. If you are a fan of Asian action films and are familiar with the crowdfunding venue, Indiegogo, you may rememeber actress and filmmaker Maria Tran‘s appearance in the action packed independent martial arts hitwoman comedy, Hit Girls, which also features Hell’s Haunted Palace and Fist Of The Dragon co-star Juju Chan, and co-directed by co-star Adrian Castro. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it, as it exhibits some pretty good action sequences that invoke some amazing action sequences with a story fit for a shortfilm that literally goes out in the blaze of glory.
