The Wild is currently streaming on Hi-YAH!, and will release on Digital on April 9 from Well Go USA. Korean crime noir is full-up in The Wild. Director Kim Bong-han’s third outing is dark, moody, and thrilling at times, and lead actor Park Sung-woong presents a worthwhile protagonist in Woo-cheol, an underground fighter sentenced to eight years for killing a man in the ring, and released a year early on good behavior. Eager to live a more quiet life away from the hustle and bustle of the criminal underworld familiar to his best friend Do-sik (Oh Dae-hwan), his outro is soon interrupted when an attempt to hold an assailant accountable for assaulting a woman envelopes him into an even deeper and more troubling predicament. What follows is a tale of love, betrayal and redemption with Woo-cheol wedged between three major players in a deal that will ultimately determine his fate. […]
Well Go USA’s premiere Asian film streamer, Hi-YAH!, will launch Night Of The Assassin on July 21, with an August 8 release on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD. Kwak Jeong-deok’s feature debut arrives in the U.S. with Night Of The Assassin, a period story set during a tumultuous time where power is up for grabs between anyone seeking it, and willing to hire anyone deadly enough to help get it. Inan (Shin Hyun-joon) is one such person – a fearsome swordsman with skills to match the reputation he’s earned. One fateful night, however, a long-dormant pulmonary illness surfaces, forcing him to seek a healer only to be advised that his next battle could be his last. A year later, the wayward Inan finds himself roaming a mountain village whereupon after stopping a gang of bandits from harrassing a tavern owner named Seon-hong (Kim Min-kyung), she takes him in for a day […]
Actor and martial artist Peter Pham’s relationship with U.S. distributor Well Go USA has been brewing for some time now, after emerging online with select action shorts in the last several years. This growth eventually led to the production and premiere of Brennan Lane’s hit short film, Mayhem, taking nicely to the virtual crowd for the SDCC Kung Fu Extravaganza back in 2020. That was the year filmmaker Phan Anh’s martial arts thriller, Foggy Mountain, would finally hit the world sales floor through Arclight with the burgeoning star set to finally stake his claim in a feature setting outside of Vietnam. With the film’s current release made instant last week on Well Go’s niche martial arts streamer, Hi-YAH!, genre fans can now gauge Pham’s Western debut in the action arena which now pairs him among a cadre of company headliners like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Marko Zaror, Philip Ng, Saori […]
This week is as good a time as any to remind fans to subscribe to Well Go USA’s genre imprint, Hi-YAH!. The streamer will launch Ernesto Diaz Espinoza’s Fist Of The Condor this Friday starring Marko Zaror and Eyal Meyer who have been touring the east coast this week while promoting the film’s Alamo Drafthouse screening events in North America. The streamer will also release Ip Man: Kung Fu Master helmer Li Liming’s Young Ip Man, as well as premiere weekly episodes of ATV Home and STAR Channel’s 1995 televised 30×45 series iteration of “Fist Of Fury” starring Donnie Yen. Watch the company’s new monthly promo below and then head to Hi-YAH! today.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that Ernesto Diaz Espinoza’s new martial arts action adventure, Fist Of The Condor, remains up in the air as a concept to drive an even bigger story beyond the current movie that now exists. Indeed I think it would be the dopest thing to see a full-on trilogy or franchise of some sort stemming from the concepts at play here, and I say this not yet having seen the film since it began its festival run earlier this year. Upon the empire’s fall to invading conquistadors, the 16th-century Incas quickly concealed a sacred manual containing the secrets behind their deadly fighting technique. But after centuries of careful safeguarding, the manual is again at risk of falling into the wrong hands, leaving its rightful guardian to battle the world’s greatest assassins to protect the ancient secrets within. That’s the wind-up-and-the-pitch right out of genre staple Well Go […]
Next Friday, March 3 will see the exclusive Hi-YAH! streaming premiere of Daniel Lee’s Code Of The Assassins, ahead of a Digital, Blu-Ray and DVD rollout on March 28. After completing his training, an elite young assassin embarks on his first mission and is quickly ensnared in an intricate plot laid by powerful people pulling strings from the shadows. Upon failing to complete the assignment, he is forced to go on the run—from the government and rival assassin groups alike—as he seeks to unmask the players behind the conspiracy.
There’s reason to believe in Indonesia’s currently burgeoning line of superhero titles in film and television. Hanung Bramantyo’s Legend Of Gatotkaca remains just one example of many, given its evolution over time and the changing of hands from one director to another. The good news now is that folks in the U.S. will get a chance to see the hand Bramantyo deals in this spectacular arena with Well Go USA at the forefront of its rollout. Subscribers to the company’s streaming imprint, Hi-YAH! will get a chance to check out the flick on February 17, followed by Digital, Blu-Ray and DVD releases from March 21. After a superpowered assassin kills his best friend, a young man uncovers a secret prophecy that will be key to surviving the battle against an ancient evil in the superhero origin story LEGEND OF GATOTAKACA, which debuts exclusively on the martial arts streaming service Hi-YAH! […]
December is chock-filled with some Asian action delights over at Well Go USA’s niche streaming channel, Hi-YAH!, and the company has a brand new promo which you can view below, firstly introducing footage from Channel Choi’s Kowloon Walled City (2021), starring Shi Yan Neng (a.k.a. Xing Yu) as a migrant from Dongbei who finds himself up against evil forces to protect friends within the notorious city. The action continues with two Jet Li headliners beginning with The Legend Of The Red Dragon (a.k.a. New Legend Of Shaolin) (1994) from directors Corey Yuen and Wong Jing, with Li joined by then-rising star Xie Miao for the story of a heroic father/son martial arts duo forced to mitigate poverty, and the exploits of a con woman and her mother while journeying to avenge the destruction of their village against a traitor during the government crackdown on Shaolin. Li will also be seen […]
Eighties Hong Kong cinematic action at its peak can be best summed up by one title as good as almost any for its time: Corey Yuen’s 1986 film, Righting Wrongs, centering on screen legend Yuen Biao in the role of a prosecutor whose maverick search for justice outside the law puts him in the throes of a duty-bound Hong Kong cop, played by cinematic action starlet Cynthia Rothrock. The story, which runs high on pulse-pounding action and stunts as the story builds forward, hits a major climax with blockbuster fisticuffs featuring both stars, and if you haven’t seen the film yet, this latest cinematic action breakdown by stuntman, mo-cap artist and filmmaker Eric Jacobus could be something of a spoiler. Well Go USA allowed Jacobus the courtesy of using their footage to synthesize and study the gangbuster action and fight choreography by Yuen and Hong Kong action stalwart Sammo Hung, […]
Kim Hong-sun’s new action horror thriller, Project Wolf Hunting, remains one of 2022’s biggest crowdpleasers in theaters and at festivals around the world. Residents within Well Go USA’s distribution reach managed to catch the film on the big screen back in October and are now poised for its domestic release through co-distribution partnership, with a May 2023 launch on Cinedigm’s horror streamer, Screambox, and Well Go USA’s niche martial arts channel, Hi-YAH!. During transport from the Philippines to South Korea, a group of dangerous criminals unites to stage a coordinated escape attempt. As the jailbreak escalates into a bloody, all-out riot, the fugitives and their allies from the outside exact a brutal terror campaign against the special agents onboard the ship. Kim directs from his own script with a cast led by Seo In-guk and Jang Dong-yoon along with Choi Gwi-hwa, Sung Dong-il, Park Ho-san, and Jung So-min among others. […]

It may have seemed pretty likely at some point that anything stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmaker Kensuke Sonomura did would immediately be welcome by North American distributor Well Go USA, given the reception for his 2019 feature debut, Hydra. Fast forward to this week’s launch of the 17th installment of Fantastic Fest, where attendees can finally catch what Sonomura had been up to last year with the production of his sophomore debut, Bad City. Neuchâtel premiered the pic earlier this summer while slowly rolling out its promotional campaign, and now, with a trio of screenings at Fantastic set from this Saturday through the 28th, trade news on Friday is making it official with Well Go USA’s acquisition of the Yakuza crime thriller as a Hi-YAH! Original release, followed by theatrical and wider VOD releases later this year. I can assure you there’s plenty to dive into this year at Fantastic Fest, […]
Subscribers to Well Go USA’s exclusive streamer, Hi-YAH! will be loads pleased with what’s coming next month, especially for the first week as action fans have just come off this week’s 30th anniversary of action star Brandon Lee’s hit 1992 action thriller, Rapid Fire. For this, we first turn to Ronny Yu’s 1986 film, Legacy Of Rage, which sees Lee starring opposite Michael Wong in the story of a man who sets out for retribution against his traitorous best friend when an eight-year stretch in prison tears him apart from girlfirend, and the baby he doesn’t know she’s carrying. Legacy Of Rage arrives on September 2 and also features appearances by Regina Kent, Mang Hoi, and Bolo Yeung. The following week will see the September 9 arrival of one of action cinema’s most explosive and celebrated titles, Silent Trigger, from Highlander helmer Russell Mulchahy, and starring Dolph Lundgren as an […]

When Sandi’s son bares witness to the murder of the village elder at the hands of his ruthless leader, Sandi is forced to protect his son at all costs. Feel free to read my review following the film’s screening last month for the New York Asian Film […]
Originally published July 19: Falling somewhere between cerebral crime drama and reductionist martial arts thriller is writer/director Randolph Zaini’s feature debut, Preman: Silent Fury. The film tells of Sandi (Khiva Iskak), a gangster whose organization, led by Guru (Kiki Narendra), is currently on a violent campaign to force villagers out of their homes at the will of a sinister politician named Hanoeng (David Saragih). When Guru’s attempt to cudjole the village keeper, Haji (Egi Fedly), into selling his property turns violent, Sandi’s own son, Pandu (Muzakki Ramdhan), falls witness to the incident, making him a target and forcing Sandi to protect his son in a race against time, hired killers, and a narrowing chance to redeem himself. The film definitely takes some whimsical turns in its recurring flashbacks of Sandi’s childhood, which is enough to pair against the film’s more gritty and gruesome imagery per the action and drama. Key […]
Originally published July 15, 2022: The last several years have seen a notable of proliferation of the newest J-wave of action cinema titles out of Japan. To this end, films like the HiGH&LOW franchise which remains on-going to this day, stars and figures like Shun Oguri, Tak Sakaguchi, Takumi Kitamura and Masanori Mimoto, and directors like Kensuke Sonomura have all been welcome assets amidst the emerging talents of late, and it’s not over yet with other filmmakers and performers bound to leave their mark in the coming weeks and months. This especially goes for director Hugo Sakamoto, who has been increasingly influential in his craft for at least six years to date, having since made waves stateside at Fantastic Fest last year with his most recent endeavor, Baby Assassins. The film is still trekking the festival circuit in North America, and in no short order looks to be a solid […]
