Coming To Hi-YAH! In September: LEGACY OF RAGE, SILENT TRIGGER, THE BLACKSHEEP AFFAIR And Much More!
Subscribers to Well Go USA’s exclusive streamer, Hi-YAH! will be loads pleased with what’s coming next month, especially for the first week as action fans have just come off this week’s 30th anniversary of action star Brandon Lee’s hit 1992 action thriller, Rapid Fire. For this, we first turn to Ronny Yu’s 1986 film, Legacy Of Rage, which sees Lee starring opposite Michael Wong in the story of a man who sets out for retribution against his traitorous best friend when an eight-year stretch in prison tears him apart from girlfirend, and the baby he doesn’t know she’s carrying.
Legacy Of Rage arrives on September 2 and also features appearances by Regina Kent, Mang Hoi, and Bolo Yeung.
The following week will see the September 9 arrival of one of action cinema’s most explosive and celebrated titles, Silent Trigger, from Highlander helmer Russell Mulchahy, and starring Dolph Lundgren as an elite covert government assassin who finds himself the target of his own agency when a job goes wrong. Also starring are Gina Bellman and Christopher Heyerdahl.
September 16 will mark the sustenance of what’s been a continual milestone year for Japanese action cinema, particularly for folks who’ve been able to discover Hugo Sakamoto’s latest action comedy, Baby Assassins, which put forth the prospective talents of actress Akari Takaishi and stuntwoman/co-star Saori Izawa. For this, we turn to A Janitor, Sakamoto’s dark 2021 action thriller about the son of a gangster (Seiji Fukushi) who places himself as the janitor of a high school fractured by gang warfare to watch over his cousin (Imou Haruka).
Director and co-star Brandy Yuen’s 1983 sports action comedy, The Champions, will also take the mantle as another addition to the streamer featuring Hong Kong cinema stalwart, Yuen Biao. Host to a bevy of cinematic athleticism befitting the narrative, The Champions centers on a beleagured ball boy and punching bag who must face off with his football team’s rancorous star player. This Golden Harvest gem also stars Moon Lee, Cheung Kwok Leung and incomparable screen villain and legendary character actor Dick Wei, and arrives in English dub and sub versions on September 23.
Last and way, WAY far from least is The Blacksheep Affair, directed by Allun Lam and squarely placing actor and martial arts star Vincent Zhao back in a much deserved spotlight for fans of the genre. The screen star whose credits include working for veterans like Tsui Hark, Yuen Bun and Corey Yuen up to this point, sees Zhao in the role of a patriotic soldier transferred to the Chinese Embassy in a European country as punishment for disobeying orders. Trouble brews twofold upon crossing paths with his ex-girlfriend, who fled China following the Tiannamen Square protests, and soon enough when he trades blows of a menacing Japanese cult leader in cahoots with the country’s corrupt officials.
Featuring stunning action choreography by Ching Siu Tung, The Blacksheep Affair also stars Shu Qi and Andrew Lim, along with Ken Wong and late legendary actor Kenneth Tsang, and rounds out the month on September 30.
