News is circulating that Universal Pictures, Blumhouse and Platnum Dunes are returning to The Purge franchise once more for the fourth installment tentatively titled the Next Purge Chapter. James DeMonaco directed the trilogy which saw the story of people and politicians fighting off danger from all corners on the nation’s annually-celebrated evening of crime and near lawlessness. All three films scored hugely on top of each other at the box office. The new installment is opening on July 4, 2018 while a director is sought after with DeMonaco will be providing the script this time. Jason Blum, Sebastien K. Lemercier, and Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes are all returning to produce. Moviegoers in the U.K. still has about a week before director James DeMonaco’s The Purge: Election Year makes the theatrical rounds capping off the current trilogy until further notice. In the meantime, folks in the U.S. will soon have an opportunity to invite the dystopian suspense thriller saga in their home with both the trilogy as well as the latest installation which sees lead actor Frank Grillo returning to the fray. This is one I missed during its theatrical run so I’ll definitely be bookmarking this for later viewing. For now, the latest trailer is above along with the following artwork and Monday’s press announcement. From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment: THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR IT’S TIME TO CHOOSE YOUR SIDE AMERICA! AVAILABLE ON DIGITAL HD ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2016 BLU-RAY™ COMBO PACK, DVD AND ON DEMAND ON OCTOBER 4, 2016 “THE BEST PURGE FILM YET” — OWEN GLEIBERMAN, VARIETY UNIVERSAL […]
The surprise hit that was writer and director James DeMonaco’s The Purge, has taken quite an authentic and rewarding journey in the last four years. From contained survival thriller to urban action flick, the newly-formed trilogy now immerses itself into a world all its own with a rich, suspenseful story that currently pits leading man Frank Grillo front and center as our protagonist following his stellar performance as a broken father seeking vengeance in The Purge: Anarchy in 2014. Thus, we now move forward with the latest from the collaborative crew from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes with The Purge: Election Year, with Grillo, back in character and now assigned as a secret serviceman at the behest of a Senator looking to end the annual event of citizen bloodshed and suburban warfare as enacted by the New Founding Fathers Of America years ago. Obviously something like that will rub political opponents […]
Frank Grillo may be far and away from any prospects from a remake of The Raid, but that won’t impede him from featuring in some notable thrillers to date. He’s sure made a killing doing so in the 2014 sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, which film earned him a ton of fan acclaim with a story set in a dystopian version of the U.S. where The Purge, an annual government-implemented event that allows citizens to commit almost any act of crime for one evening of the year, maintains law and order for the remainder of every year. Needless to say, it’s an event that’s drawn the response of a brewing rebellion that will only heat things up further, as they seemingly do now in the third installment from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, The Purge: Election Year. Grillio and actress Elizabeth Mitchell headline the cast for the film which releases on July […]
Last year’s release of Universal Pictures’s sci-fi thriller, The Purge 2, welcomed the continuation of an expansive narrative that has gained a successful following among moviegoers. Beginning in 2013 with Lena Headey and Ethan Hawke starring in The Purge, the franchise propels you into a darkly-lit future version of a crimeless America that maintains order with the annual nationwide holiday, “The Purge”, where Americans are granted one night to go completely apeshit in order to release the worst of themselves unto their fellow man. It’s a story crazy-littered with epic brutality and seething terror and it’s one that is doing quite a fruitful number on actor Frank Grillo who carried last year’s film and ultimately becoming a winning favorite for his character: a desperate father in mourning over the death of his son who sets out to find the man that killed him, only to find himself aiding a ragtag […]

The first installment of The Purge got some mixed reactions by critics when it was released last year. I personally enjoyed the first and look forward to the sequel, The Purge: Anarchy when it releases later this summer. Bearing this in mind, those who enjoy the dystopian future America that writer and director James DeMonaco has crafted will get to endulge the experience first hand in the form of what is being described as an “immersive real-life horror escape-experience” when Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions launch “The Purge: Breakout” this summer. The official press release below has all the details: UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Purge: Breakout, an immersive real-life horror-escape experience, will travel throughout the United States this summer, offering fans an opportunity to step inside the world of the film franchise The Purge, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions announced today. The Purge: Anarchy arrives […]
Writer and director James DeMonaco‘s is cranking it up this summer for the forthcoming release of The Purge: Anarchy. Following up the success of the first film which released last year, the sequel now takes the battle to the streets of a not-too-distant future America where in order to sustain record crime lows and economic highs for the rest of the year, the government decriminalizes all crimes, allowing the nation one night of virtually complete lawlessness. All hell breaks loose, body counts ensue, and its every man, woman and child for himself. And its the perfect setup for a film franchise that has something pretty good going for itself, in my opinion. I enjoyed the first movie for its gritty delivery as an action-horror piece, and I believe this one is well on its way to a impressive second act. As noteworthy mention, both films bare the name of blockbuster […]
SYNOPSIS: In the near future, the United States has become a utopia; unemployment rates are at 1% and crime is at an all-time low. The only reason things are like this is because the U.S. government has enacted a program called “The Purge.” For one night out of the year, over a 12-hour period, all criminal activity, including rape and murder, is legal. Emergency services are suspended. Hospitals are closed. Nothing is against the law. The Purge acts as a catharsis for the American people, a chance to release the pent-up rage they keep inside of them. This ritual helps keep crime rates at a low level for the rest of the year. The movie centers around a single wealthy family whose home has been fortified to protect them from outsiders during one of these purges. The family, whose two children debate the morality of the purge and the views […]
Do you remember all the good the annual Purge has done? Well, Universal remembers. The first film became a runaway hit under writer and director James DeMonaco last year, and this summer, the terror spills onto the streets once more with the June 20, 2014 release of The Purge: Anarchy, with Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez and Keith Stanfield starring. From Blumhouse: The New Founding Fathers of America invite you to celebrate the annual Purge. The sequel to 2013’s runaway sleeper hit will be released on Friday, June 20, 2014. Returning alongside writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to produce the next chapter of the thriller are Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series), alongside Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers) and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, Transformers franchise), Brad Fuller (The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street) […]
