Just thought I’d catch up for all those currently initiated with obscure Asian film lore. This one, Patriot: Selamatkan Indonesia, is a humble superhero action thriller only in short form but nonetheless boasts an assuring concept between its July teaser as well as its first-look stills currently floating around on social media. The official trailer is now here though, and more than enough to help us make do until it releases somewhere at some point. Jaymes Riyanto is starring and directing the pic in the title character, based the book “Operation Sandi Yudha” by retired general A.M. Hendropriyono, and is currently intended as a proof-of-concept for a larger project that will hopefully manifest in due time. The undoubtedly gargantuan task of manifesting an entire cinematic universe is never easy, with Indonesia’s previously-announced aspirations for the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe serving up to be quite the task. The good news is Joko Anwar’s 2019 film, Gundala, helped get the ball rolling, which now brings us to (what looks like) an unrelated endeavor in the form of upcoming shortfilm, Patriot: Selamatkan Indonesia, which has since launched a teaser as of late July. Starring Jaymes Riyanto (writer and producer of Ajari Aku Islam) who is also directing from his own script, Patriot: Selamatkan Indonesia hails from RA Pictures and Royal Sumatra Group subsidiary, Royal Pictures, and is based on the writings of retired general, AM Hendropriyono, and is set to be the precursor for a much larger film production down the line.
