Indonesian filmmaker Mouly Surya will direct actress Jessica Alba in Trigger Warning for Netflix, the streamer announced on Friday. Josh Olson (A History Of Violence) and John Brancato (The Hunter’s Prayer) are penning the action thriller, which marks Surya’s latest return to the director’s chair after leaving a mark on 2017, with Cannes official Directors’ Fortnight selection, Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts. Jason Statham has a checkered past when it comes to action movies. This is a man who has subjected himself to the direction – if we can call it that- of the infamous Uwe Boll (In The Name of The King: A Story With An Already Ridiculous Enough Title That It Didn’t Need A Subtitle to Make it Worse), confused the shit out of us as Jake Green in 2005’s Revolver, and still found time in his schedule to make basketball interesting again in 2010 with The Expendables. From the cartoonishness of his survival spree as Chev Chelios in the Crank series to his Bond-on-wheels turn as The Transporter, I would argue in gest that said past and all its turbulent splendor has contributed significantly to the cultivation of that bitchin’ perpetual scowl Statham sports. But I fear he wouldn’t appreciate the joke and thus proceed to openly diss superhero […]
Director Dennis Gansel’s forthcoming sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection, has been a little light in its marketing since debuting an official trailer a few months ago. Some promotional spots are online as well but there’s not a lot of noise, although I do know that there have been a few early screenings and the mood I’m getting is for that of what sounds like an imperfect, albeit kick-ass thrillride to enjoy when it hits theaters. All in all, fans of action star, actor Jason Statham may have something worthwhile awaiting them this summer with a story that follows up Simon West’s efforts back in 2011 remaking the Charles Bronson action classic. Actresses Jessica Alba and Michelle Yeoh, and actor Tommy Lee Jones are also in the midst and with an August 26 U.S. release not too far off, we now have an international trailer with extra doses of new footage in which […]
Director Dennis Gansel is bringing the heat this summer with the new action sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection. Jason Statham is back and reprising his role once more from the 2011 reboot of Michael Winner’s 1972 film, and here, with actress Jessica Alba as our hero is forced away from his new life and back behind the trigger in order to save the woman he loves. Also starring are actor Tommy Lee Jones and actress and well-noted martial arts star, Michelle Yeoh, who you may not have known was in the film since she was nowhere to be seen in the first trailer. Well, here she is in several exclusive stills hosted by the good folks at HeyUGuys, and much more. You can check ten of them out below or feel free to view all twenty at HeyUGuys as well. Mechanic: Resurrection opens in the U.S. on August 26. View post on […]
Action star Jason Statham’s career has seen its share of highs and lows outside of being an Expendable. Films like Parker and Wild Card have been a less-receiving, yet notable examples shedding light on questions regarding whether or not he can sustain his starpower, whilst his biggest success to date has been a Transporter between 2002 and 2008. This year, that same question gets the sequel nod with director Dennis Gansel’s forthcoming title, Mechanic: Resurrection following Simon West’s 2011 remake of Michael Winner’s 1972 Charles Bronson headliner. The new movie continues the story of master assassin Arthur Bishop, who, having thought to have moved on with his new life, is now forced to take out a list of the world’s most dangerous men in order to rescue the woman he loves from captivity. Jessica Alba also stars in the film as shown in the first official image unveiled a few months […]
I honestly didn’t expect director Kyle Newman‘s latest fish-out-of-water action comedy, Barely Lethal, to be so obscure in the past year or more. Thankfully though, the film isn’t too far off from its forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray and Digital releases next month, with actress Hailee Steinfeld starring as a young, highly trained spy on a whimsical quest of self-discovery on what it’s like to be a “normal” teenage girl. The film did hit some high notes among early audiences otherwise gracing the film its approval, and if you like watching Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba, this one ought to be enjoyable for the family. Observe the official specs below and watch the latest trailer courtesy of Lionsgate Unlocked. A teenage undercover agent discovers graduating from high school may be a bigger challenge than being an international spy in the action comedy Barely Lethal, arriving on Blu-ray™ (plus Digital HD) and DVD (plus […]
Now this looks like a teen romcom I can get used to. Actress Halee Steinfeld as a highly trained assassin looking for an out and finds her way into high school in search of a life she’s been missing, only to see her past come back in a deadly way? Yes, despite the usual assortment of wit and adolescent camp you might normally find in any pubescent teen comedy, at least this one packs some heat. SYNOPSIS: A 16-year-old international assassin yearning for a “normal” adolescence fakes her own death and enrolls as a senior in a suburban high school. She quickly learns that being popular can be more painful than getting water-boarded. Jessica Alba and Samuel L. Jackson add their share of starpower to this long-awaited gem from director Kyle Newman with A24 releasing the film to subscribers of DirecTV on April 30 before granting a limited theatrical release […]
Actor Jason Statham has plenty in store for his fanbase beyond those dazzled by his action-packed feats performed with great fervor in the previous Transporter and Expendables trilogies. With the trailer to his upcoming April 3, 2015 appearance in Universal’s Furious 7 and the action comedy, Spy pending release, the cockney-accented screenfighting badass will be returning to a role he revitalized back in 2011 from late actor Charles Bronson’s 1972 classic, The Mechanic. Yes, The Mechanic 2 is underway with a new title and a fresh new cast with just a little over a year’s wait before release. And considering it’s the Stath, the wait will indelibly be worth it as usual! BANGKOK, Nov 7 – Principal photography has commenced on the Millennium Films production of “Mechanic: Resurrection” in Bangkok, Thailand on November 4th. Jason Statham reprises his title role as Arthur Bishop, the master assassin who faked his death, in […]
The new trailer for Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, may very well be the sexiest trailer I have ever seen for any action movie as of late. Ever. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and original graphic novel author Frank Miller, the film made a splash at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend promoting the sequel to 2005’s Sin City, and this week, the official SDCC red-band trailer has now gone viral. To be honest though, I don’t even need to say much beyond this point. The trailer pretty much sells itself, and yes, it’s quite sexy, in almost every way imaginable. SYNOPSIS: In the dark alleys of Sin City, Dwight (Josh Brolin taking over from Clive Owen) seeks revenge against the woman who betrayed him, femme fatale Ava Lord (Eva Green). Meanwhile, Nancy (Jessica Alba) is trying to cope with the death of her protector, Detective Hartigan (Bruce […]
The promotional campaign for the latest noir action crime follow-up from co-directors Robert Rodriguez and graphic novelist Frank Miller, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, had a small share of mild controversy in the past few weeks due to the MPAA’s banned poster with actress Eva Green’s right boob; A non-issue if you ask me. I dig the poster, and I’m hard-pressed to believe I’m alone in its approval. At any rate, the film is poised to release nationwide on August 22. I still need to see the first film so I can have a viable opinion. And this is my niche too, so… yeah. *Sigh* …Life gets in the way of living. (borrowing that one from Darren actually, lol.) Check out the trailer below and feel free to take a gander at the latest Reddit AMA Miller himself hosted on Wednesday! SYNOPSIS: Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller reunite to […]
A few women are making headlines this week in casting news. This, in a year that continues to see a significant presence of females in action cinema, including the fourthcoming release of underground action horror flick, Raze, the Helfi Kardit-directed action thriller, Guardian, and actress Julie Estelle who’s introduction to Gareth Huw Evans’ s upcoming action sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal, which remains to be one of the most hotly-anticipated roles of the coming year. Last week, actress Sharni Vinson expressed her thoughts and hopes of doing more action roles in an interview with Flicks And The City, with roles like Lara Croft and Elektra thrown in as honorable mentions for roles she would love to do. Little did I know that just several days later in a report over at Collider, Vinson was announced as the latest addition to Dredd producer Adi Shankar’s untitled, currently-developing all-female take on the […]
