Statham, Alba, Yeoh & Jones Board MECHANIC: RESURRECTION Now Filming!
Actor Jason Statham has plenty in store for his fanbase beyond those dazzled by his action-packed feats performed with great fervor in the previous Transporter and Expendables trilogies. With the trailer to his upcoming April 3, 2015 appearance in Universal’s Furious 7 and the action comedy, Spy pending release, the cockney-accented screenfighting badass will be returning to a role he revitalized back in 2011 from late actor Charles Bronson’s 1972 classic, The Mechanic. Yes, The Mechanic 2 is underway with a new title and a fresh new cast with just a little over a year’s wait before release. And considering it’s the Stath, the wait will indelibly be worth it as usual!
BANGKOK, Nov 7 – Principal photography has commenced on the Millennium Films production of “Mechanic: Resurrection” in Bangkok, Thailand on November 4th.
Jason Statham reprises his title role as Arthur Bishop, the master assassin who faked his death, in an attempt to walk away from his former profession, in order to lead a peaceful and quiet retirement.
It’s a big step up in scale and scope for this sequel, which will span four continents and feature action on a far larger canvas than the original. The Mechanic thought he’d escaped his former deadly life and disappeared. But now somebody’s found him, and kidnapped the woman he loves. Neither one of them will get out alive unless he completes a diabolical list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.
Joining Statham in the cast are Jessica Alba (“Sin City,” “Machete”), Michelle Yeoh (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”) and Academy Award® winner Tommy Lee Jones (Best Supporting Actor, “The Fugitive,” 1993; “The Homesman,” “Lincoln,” “Men in Black”).
Dennis Gansel directs the thriller from a screenplay by Philip Shelby, Tony Mosher, Rachel Long & Brian Pittman.
“Mechanic: Resurrection” is being produced by William Chartoff, David Winkler, John Thompson and Frank DeMartini.
The executive producers are Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Mark Gill.
Lionsgate will release “Mechanic: Resurrection” theatrically nationwide in January 2016.
