Up until now we still didn’t know jack shit about any story details for Lana Wachowski’s newest franchise continuation, The Matrix Resurrections, and so all we’ve had to go on were the tens and hundreds of thousands of mini-teasers, all timelocked within each minute of the day past the “pill wall” of the newly launched official website. That all or mostly changes depending on how prospective you feel the latest trailer is for the fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise, and you can now check it out in the player above as of Thursday morning. No more pill-choosing, or cryptic teasers about fantasy harms and fighting for our lives – that part now goes to the mix of new and returning characters on par for the newest chapter in one of Warner Bros. Pictures’ most triumphant genre-bending franchises in film history. From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes “The Matrix Resurrections,” […]
After turning up in 2016 with South African western, Five Fingers For Marseilles, director Michael Matthews returns with Love and Monsters with Dylan O’Brien and Jessica Henwick. Paramount Pictures is rolling out the film to home theaters beginning October 16. Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien), along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way. Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt also star.
I instantly take issue with anyone who has nothing nice to say about the second season of Iron Fist. I loved its direction and handling of fight choreography, as well the prominence of its female supporting lead in actress Jessica Henwick who gets to display her own martial arts proficiency tenfold in both seasons. The season finale began leaving me feeling cold when Netflix started disassociating with ABC Studios and Disney altogether, and with no hope of a third season that should have, in my view, saw Henwick’s Colleen Wing as the Iron Fist successor. Since then, she’s had I’ve pined for her return to the screen, and now it looks as if that should be happening with Anthony D’Alessandro reporting from Deadline. Much is ado with the upcoming fourth installment of The Matrix saga which is slated to begin shooting in February, and the report is now signaling talks […]
The 67th Melbourne International Film Festival kicks off on August 1 with a versatile line-up of titles, several of which are making the rounds in other fests as we speak. This no less extends to prolific documentary filmmaker and producer Serge Ou who sits at the helm for the world premiere of Iron Fists And Kung Fu Kicks, thanks in key part to the festival’s MIFF Premiere Fund. From Hong Kong to Hollywood, the Shaw Brothers to The Matrix, iron fists and kung fu kicks have been busting box offices and breaking barriers since the 1960s. This is the wild story of how the way of the dragon became a global phenomenon. Veronica Fury (Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films, MIFF Premiere Fund 2014) serves as producer with XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin and Todd Brown exec producing. Host to classic clips of kung fu cinema yesteryear with […]
The new season of Iron Fist is now here and I actually couldn’t be happier. The first season drew some pretty proper criticisms for its structural aspects and some fans are apparently still apprehensive in their lingering sentiments over the show’s star, Finn Jones. I have to say though that there’s plenty that comes out much better in the handling of the action to coincide with some of the drama. Continuing from season one and its ensemble pivot to The Defenders, Danny Rand has taken the mantle in protecting New York City from crime. Balancing it all with his personal life with Colleen Wing still has its challenges but it’s nothing they can’t handle until questions begin to stir some gravely important issue concerning them both. This, while in the midst of finding themselves as mediators in a brewing war between two Triad factions, ensues bittersweet reunions with friends-turned-foes, and […]
Netflix is ripe for a time these days in which martial arts dramas are continuing to reap the favor of fans. 2019 will certainly be of interest while Marvel’s Iron Fist maintains its course for next month, and the footage we’re seeing has only gotten better since the campaign began this summer. Finn Jones is back in the title role of Danny Rand next to Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing for the story of a displaced survivor of a plane crash who, after living years in the distant realm of Kun’Lun, paves his path of self-discovery amidst epic battles back to New York City. We saw several of those clashes between our hero and that of his bitter sibling, Davos, played favorably by Sacha Dhawan and rest assured, season two makes it clear these two still have a score to settle. Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny, a character […]
The second season premeires September 7!
Netflix Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m beat! Friday saw the release of Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix and after about a week’s worth of brouhaha from critics, I caught the pilot and decided that anyone basically with a full-on negative review of this show needed to… as one of the show’s main character implies, CALM THE F DOWN! And after watching the remaining twelve episodes, STILL, I say exactly that. From the get-go and like most shows, it’s not perfect. However, it doesn’t mean that you’re not in some way shape or form intrigued or compelled by the story and it’s characters. Even a comic book noob like myself can grasp that concept and thankfully I notice on the interwebs that I’m not completely alone on this. I won’t go into too many specifics but as far as analysis goes, I will lend some counterpoint to the positives, […]
It’s been undoubtedly a rough year for Marvel fans who’ve waited to see what would stick and what wouldn’t from showrunner and executive producer Scott Buck’s treatment of comic book property, Iron Fist. I’ve waited as a matter of maybe fifteen years since actor and martial artist Ray Park was slated to star in his own movie inspired by the character and for what it’s worth, I’m glad I lived this long to see something come of it, even if a number of fans out in the world can’t afford or simply don’t have Netflix, which sucks. I understand wholly. The show premiered early Friday with Game Of Thrones series co-star Finn Jones starring in the title role, and as we speak, much to the chagrin of critcs from media and entertainment sites who’ve had a chance to look at a previous a handful of episodes or the first season […]
Netflix We are officially ten days away from the Netflix premiere of Marvel’s martial arts fantasy series, Iron Fist in which actress Jessica Henwick is expected to be seen. In the meantime, you can chalk, Underwater, as another achievement for the British actress with word via Variety confirming her attached role next to that of actress Kristen Stewart. Production is around the corner and set for New Orleans, Lousiana from 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment with a story that focuses on a jaded science crew member forced to go on a dangerous mission following an Earthquake; the overall plot of the film is best described as Michael Bay’s deep sea version of Armageddon.
