THE FANATIC Review: A Twisted, Nihilistic Profile Of Fringe Fandom And Fantasia
If there was ever a film that dove deep into the nebulous trenches of uberfandom, Fred Durst’s third feature film, The Fanatic, certainly achieves its goal. From the outset, the film challenges viewers on what it means to gauge the subject matter, through the perspective of the often overlooked, downtrodden and mentally ill, principally in the city of Los Angeles, or as Leah (Ana Golja) calls it, “the city of bullshitters” where “everything breaks down eventually”.

Ti West’s Western Thriller, IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE Rages Home This December
The trailer for Ti West’s latest Western pic, In A Valley Of Violence isn’t really something that falls in my purview, but I can certainly appreciate good westerns where they are. This one stars John Travolta in a role that looks much more fitting than whatever that was with the bad hair in I Am Wrath, along with Ethan Hawke and you can sample a bit of it just beneath Thursday’s announcement of its DVD, Digital HD and Blu-Ray releases in December.

I AM WRATH: John Travolta In Talks To Star In The New Revenge Thriller
Actor John Travolta doesn’t always do action movies, but when he does, he usually plays a badass villain in some form or another. His role as a Serbian huntsman in the 2013 flick, Killing Season was pretty good – not great, but it served its purpose, and now he’s reportedly in talks to switch gears to play the protagonist in Eraser helmer Chuck Russell‘s new film, I Am Wrath.
Set to roll cameras in March should Travolta make it official, Paul Sloan’s script will depict the actor as a man out to find his wife’s killer when the cops fail to. The film is currently being billed as Travolta‘s Taken with producers Michael Mendelsohn, Nick Vallelonga and Richard Salvatore also on board. The film is also scouting for supporting roles while we await further word on Travolta’s official signing.
The plot isn’t anything new and any comparison to Morel’s work on Taken may be a stretch considering how awesome it was, although it could work depeding on what Russell adds to the mix as long as it keeps us going from start to finish. Stay tuned for more info.
