BEHIND THE SHADOWS enjoyed its North American Premiere for the 24th edition of the New York Asian Film Festival.
The film opens in Hong Kong on June 12.
After shelling out enough to win actor Da Peng a Golden Goblet Award for Best Actor at the Shanghai Film Festival this week, the actor’s awarded performance was soon sampled among the cast for Dust To Dust. Production began roughly four years ago, reteaming The Brink helmer and producer Jonathan Li and Soi Cheang, respectively. The story comes ripped from the headlines as it’s inspired by one of the biggest crimes in regional history when armed gangsters violently robbed a transport vehicle of up to fifteen million yuan in 1995. Dust To Dust chronicles the efforts undertaken during ghe to catch the criminals, as well as the interwoven drama that ensues between members of the gang. The film also stars Zhang Song Wen, Sun Yang, Wang Zi Chen, Lam Ka Tung and Xi Qi, and opens in China on September 9. Check out the teaser!

Going into 2018, it’s a great thing knowing we’re not hearing the last of actor and martial artist Max Zhang. Transitioning from stunt double to film star is no easy feat and thankfully he’s broken the mold in Asia enough to build himself into the next phase of his career which now sees him crossing into Hollywood. For now though, it’s Jonathan Li’s latest directotial debut that has taken shape with the anticipated theatrical release of The Brink, headlining Zhang and fellow star Shawn Yue in the story of a daring cop on a relentless mission to bring down a high seas gold smuggling operation. Wu Yue and Kurata Yasuaki and actresses Janice Man and Cecilia So also star for the film’s release on November 10 and with that, we have the newest trailer making the rounds and asserting in us a certifiable reminder that Zhang isn’t leaving us anytime […]

It’s been quite a minute since we last heard from anything on debut helmer Jonathan Li’s heist thriller, The Brink. Alas, nearly a year after its backing by Chinese online streaming service, iQIYI and with the fervor having made headway at HK Filmart, Bravos Pictures finally announced the film with artwork and a teaser trailer to help get things going. The film centers on a reckless police inspector bent on bringing a major gold smuggling scheme to its end, bookended with its own infighting and greed between its ringleader and a triad boss. The film is one of several titles featuring lead actor Max Zhang who is also poised for upcoming actioner, Made In Kowloon, as well as an Ip Man spin-off that would branch his character from the first film of said franchise in which Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista would be joining. The Brink also casts Yue Wu, […]
I like that Zhang is getting more screentime nowadays. He’s been an eye-catcher in Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster and Ip Man 3 as of late, and if you’re not tired of him yet, the good news is he’ll be back in stellar form once more, and sporting blonde hair no less, in Jonathan Li’s newest film, The Brink, from Hong Kong-based Sun Entertainment Culture and Sil-Metropole Organization Photos are now surfacing from the production through Chinese media following the film’s announcement at the Hong Kong Filmart back in March, which reunites Zhang with Soi Cheang and action director Nicky Li following last year’s S.P.L. 2: A Time For Consequences featuring Zhang’s kinetic performance as a corrupt prison warden opposite Tony Jaa and Wu Jing. This time and among the film’s other ‘firsts’, Zhang will be the one wearing the badge in his first cop role for a story centered […]
