Reviews are mixed following early screenings of Guy Ritchie’s newest venture, Operation Fortune, which has since suffered a long stalemate when its release through STX was kiboshed early last year. Say what you may of the reasons now that we’re a year later, but the film is now in the hands of Lionsgate for its stateside release, and on top of Ritchie’s pairing with leading man of action Jason Statham once more and an ensemble cast therein, the addition of the phenomenal Aubrey Plaza feels like the ultimate sweetener of a long-awaited deal. In the film, super spy Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) must track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology wielded by billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant). Reluctantly teamed with some of the world’s best operatives (Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone), Fortune and his crew recruit Hollywood’s biggest movie star Danny Francesco […]
John Swab’s new crime thriller, Ida Red, was another fine addition to the festival circuit this season. Starring Josh Hartnett, it’s a slow burn family drama lathered with seething criminal intrigue about an ex-con who’s apparently still about that life, as he’s now embroiled in the fallout of a botched heist, while toiling away at a plan to help get his notorious criminal mother out of prison, that is, if the FBI agents in toe don’t stop him first. There’s a great deal buried within the layers here, including a shocking family twist to angle the spotlight further onto the kind if generational setbacks of lingering demons that can afflict any family. And with it, some solid acting to boot with a cast led by Sofia Hublitz (“Ozark”), William Forsythe (The Devil’s Rejects, Raising Arizona), and the amazing Deborah Ann Woll (“True Blood”), along with a raft of scene stealers by actor Frank Grillo (Boss Level, The […]
Well Go USA has acquired Valley Of The Gods (Dolina Bogòw), the 2019 fantasy drama epic from acclaimed Polish-American filmmaker Lech Majewski. The Josh Harnett/John Malkovich ensemble feature will have a physical and digital release on August 11, 2020, and also stars Bérénice Marlohe (Skyfall), Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey) and John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings trilogy). Per the company’s announcement, Valley Of The Gods “contrasts opposing social extremes—namely abundance and poverty––through three separate storylines, which revolve around a middle-class writer, an eccentric trillionaire and members of a struggling nearby Navajo community. After a difficult divorce, copywriter John Ecas (Josh Harnett) takes on the biography of the richest man on earth (John Malkovich), who is both his boss and the man behind a plan to mine sacred Navajo lands for uranium. However, when modern advancement runs afoul of the long-dormant protectors warned of in ancient legend, even the […]

Bunraku writer and director Guy Moshe is reteaming with actor Josh Hartnett for a new revenge thriller on the horizon titled The Last Draw Of Jack Of Hearts. Production is reportedly commencing in April with Highland Film Group presenting the film this week to buyers at the European Film Market following its presentation at Toronto late last year by Disrupting Influence’s Glenn Kendrick Ackermann and Jason Piette when Hartnett was in talks to star. Billed as a neo-noir espionage thriller, Moshe’s script will see Hartnett as the leader of a black ops mercenary group who returns to Naples to seek revenge and reunite with the woman he loves after being betrayed by his team and left for dead in Africa. Ackermann and Piette are on board with Moshe as well as Matthew G. Zamias, Chimera Pictures’s Pedro Tarantino and Lituanica Film’s Karolis Malinauskas to produce the pic. H/T: Screendaily
