IDA RED: Josh Hartnett And Frank Grillo Head Off With The Law In John Swab’s New November Crime Thriller
John Swab’s new crime thriller, Ida Red, was another fine addition to the festival circuit this season. Starring Josh Hartnett, it’s a slow burn family drama lathered with seething criminal intrigue about an ex-con who’s apparently still about that life, as he’s now embroiled in the fallout of a botched heist, while toiling away at a plan to help get his notorious criminal mother out of prison, that is, if the FBI agents in toe don’t stop him first.
There’s a great deal buried within the layers here, including a shocking family twist to angle the spotlight further onto the kind if generational setbacks of lingering demons that can afflict any family. And with it, some solid acting to boot with a cast led by Sofia Hublitz (“Ozark”), William Forsythe (The Devil’s Rejects, Raising Arizona), and the amazing Deborah Ann Woll (“True Blood”), along with a raft of scene stealers by actor Frank Grillo (Boss Level, The Purge franchise) for his Body Brokers helmer, and with none other than Academy Award winning actress Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners, Frozen River) in the title role.
Ida Red will open in theaters, on digital and on Demand from November 5, 2021 from Saban Films.
