Director Kim Jung-hoon’s third and latest outing continues the high-seas thrills in The Pirates: Goblin Flag, following up from Lee Suk-hoon’s 2014 inaugural now with a new cast of characters and story to boot. Taking the lead are actors Kang Ha-neul, Han Hyo-joo, Lee Kwang-soo and Kwon Sang-woo with many more as the new story unfolds with warring pirate factions all vying for the lost treasure of the Goryeo royal family. You can now sample all that and more in the first official trailer above ahead of the film’s January release, along with eight new characters posters just below.
Lee Suk-hoon’s Joseon era adventure, The Pirates, was such a remarkable hit in 2014 that six years later, Lotte is finally prioritizing a sequel with a new director, according to KOFIC‘s Pierce Conran. Launched as The Pirates: Goblin Flag, Kim Jung-Hoon (The Accidental Detective) is directing from a script by Chun Sung-il, which centers on a band of pirates vying for the lost treasure of the Goryeo royal family against a new rival. Chun also wrote The Pirates, which, to give you a scope in terms of the size and scale in case you haven’t seen it, involved an epic high seas search for the giant whale that swallowed the emperor’s royal seal. With Megabox poised to open the upcoming mystery thriller, Forgotten, on November 29, the film is now on deck to get a Netflix spot thanks to the streaming company’s deal with Kiwi Company as reported by Variety this week. Lotte Director Jason Kim is onto his third directorial outing with the forthcoming release of his new cop-in-training comedy, Midnight Runners. The film is brewing at Lotte Entertainment for an August release in South Korea with leads Park Seo-jun and Kang Ha-neul starring. Forget the sense of duty and justice! Two apathetic police academy recruits who become best buddies through the tough training together witness a woman being abducted right before their very eyes. As they were taught in the academy, they quickly report the incident to the police, but the police are in no hurry to jump on the case. So the duo decide to take the matter into their own hands and rescue the woman.
