…And because 2017 wouldn’t be a normal year with just one Vin Diesel movie, director D.J. Caruso is poised to release the long-awaited trilogical installment to the daredevil action franchise, xXx: The Return Of Zander Cage. Bearing in mind, of course, the utter flop that came with the 2005 sequel that followed Rob Cohen’s 2002 original, the film does carry some weight in having to pick up the slack. Well, you do get Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role once more from the earlier two films, as well as a list of beautiful femme fatales played by Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose and Nina Dobrev. What? Not enough? Ohhh k ok, how about we throw in the first time pairing of Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa, along with UFC Middleweight champion Michael Bisping for good measure? Sound neat? Well, all that and more as a reward for our patience can now […]

Yuen Woo-Ping’s earlier ties to films like Zu Warriors: Dawn Of Darkness and Vigilantes may still be stuck on the shelf, but his latest advancement with fellow auteur, Tsui Hark, remains in bloom. As of last November, the two are presently set to remake Yuen’s own 1982 kung fu comedy classic, Miracle Fighters, remastering the Qing dynasty-set tale of two elderly, quarreling Taoist priests who lend their kung fu training to a young man mistaken to be the crown prince of the Imperial court. The film was Yuen’s seventh directorial offering earlier in his budding career in legendary kung fu filmmaking, and now marks as the latest reunion between him and Hark after having worked plentily before on titles such as Iron Monkey, Black Mask and Once Upon A Time In China 2. As much angst as there may be over remakes, we can at least rest our thoughts knowing […]
The past few months have been pretty ceremonial for filmmaker Feng Xiaogang in the wake of his latest debut lead role in Guan Hu‘s new gangster thriller, Mr. Six. The film has already made way in Toronto and Venice with a premise that introduces a look well beyond the “old vs. new” gangster theme, whilst still contributing a simple and entertaining story with Beijing suburbs as its backdrop. Moreover, the added benefit of watching Feng in a role he truly grew onto upon reading grew onto should serve as a plus for fans after years of seeing him in smaller bit roles in films like True Legend, Kung Fu Hustle and his 1997 sophomore hit and 21st-annual Hundred Flowers “Best Feature” winner, The Dream Factory. Alas, we now welcome Mr. Six with a theatrical release set for December 24 for a title role that looks nothing short of badass by […]
