Production on Kung Fury 2: The Movie will go forward on July 29 in Germany and Bulgaria according to The Hollywood Reporter. Creasun Media’s L.A.-based financing and production arm, Creasun Entertainment USA will provide major investment on the film in time for production four years after the explosively successful crowdfunded production of Swedish filmmaker David Sanberg’s superbly-received OTT half-hour fantasy short. The project saw Sandberg in the role of a Los Angeles cop who, following the death of his partner at the hands of a ninja, became the titular kung fu longfist of the law after being hit by lighting and bitten by a cobra. Filmmaker and actor David Sandberg knows this all too well having earned a world of support for his 2015 OTT half-hour 80’s-inspired fantasy martial arts time travel fantasy thriller, Kung Fury. The mega success of David Sandberg’s crowdfunded, stylish martial arts love letter to the 80’s Kung Fury, has opened the floodgates in fine form. The very shortfilm in question is the subject of the bustling news out of Berlin this week as Sandberg readies production on Kung Fury 2: The Movie with several big names attached, including that of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Hollywood Reporter notes. The Maggie and Aftermath star is set to be joined by the newly added Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff with Sandberg directing as well as reprising in the title role. It was on Sunday that actor, producer and filmmaker David Sandberg teased forthcoming announcements for the long-awaited sequel, Kung Fury 2: The Movie. His social media posts on Twitter and Instagram featured conceptual artwork by Ivan Reiss, Marcelo Maiolo, Josan Gonzales, and Alexis Ziritt along with mentions of certain producers now tied to official trade news confirmed as of Monday about the upcoming summer shoot. Word has it that Michael Fassbender is joining the film in an undisclosed role along with actor David Hasselhoff who sang the theme to the 2015 shortfilm that successfully blew past its Kickstarter goals a few years earlier, now with more than 40 million views in its wake before confirming a feature film effort in summer of 2016. Per my usual angle here at Film Combat Syndicate, following stunt professionals eventually led me to Alex Chung who is now ramping up his debut independent feature, Contracts 3. A full narrative spin-off from two earlier proof shorts, this one pits our cast deep in the brutal tale of a group of assassins who find themselves as targets of a more supreme killer. We only have a teaser trailer to go on, but it whets the appetite plenty. Ask me a month ago what Crazy Fist is and I couldn’t tell you.
