THE HIT LIST: September 14, 2015

It’s Monday, and that means another fully loaded Hit List has arrived with loads of stunts and action. This week has a few late entries that I’ve been otherwise inspired to share, and I think you all will enjoy them in some capacity. Of course, we’re starting this off with a playlist that’s nice and light, graced with stunt and martial arts reels. The new year has barely begun, and there’s already tons of material floating around online with today’s entry host to its usual amalagam of largely new and a few dated videos. Yes, it’s insane, but it’s also a wonderful (and delightfully explosive) reminder of what we can expect for the next 360 days. Cinematic Fight Studio Announces New Fan Project, BLADE: CHRONICLES OF ERIC BROOKS

While the big studios sort out the possibilities for the future of the Blade franchise with lead Wesley Snipes finally back at work, the character is obviously not limited to just what Hollywood can do. The independent scene has its own fair share of creativity in store, and the folks over at New York City’s Cinematic Fight Studio are honing into theirs with the early release of a concept poster for a new possible fan film titled Blade: Chronicles Of Eric Brooks. Up-and-coming actor Ricky Barksdale can be seen branded on the indie film fight studio’s newest poster as it was unveiled this week. The poster marks the first step toward a hopeful fan-driven shortfilm spin-off based on Marvel’s highly popular eponymous semi-human vampire hunter, centering on his earlier years as his pre-Blade alias, Eric Brooks, with a crowdsourcing effort to follow and help finish the post production process. You gotta give credit where credit is due. If it weren’t for the popularity of films like Merantau or The Raid and its sequel, the chances are that we would still be waiting. Well, leave it to the dwelling artists of the independent online action community, unafraid to experiment with whatever tools they need in building their filmmaking fight muscles for the sake of keeping action alive, whether they’re bare fists, feet, or maybe even Karambit knives! Point in fact, I had one horror story earlier this year in which I wrote an article promoting a crowdfunder for a shortfilm thay ended up being plagiarized in not one, but two press releases. Since then, I demanded answers and a change to the content, but I never heard back from the person in charge of those press releases. Quite an unpleasant time indeed. Cinematic Fight Studio Presents: MOST WANTED

It took all but three months of training in hand-to-hand and weapons for independent filmmakers and stunt trainers at Cinematic Fight Studio to help assemble their latest project with student, up-and-coming actress Kadia Saraf. The end result is what you now see in their new experimental action shortfilm, Most Wanted, which showcases Saraf as she takes on a bounty hunter hot on her tail, played by actor, martial artist and fellow trainer and choreographer, Neyssan Falahi. The project marks Saraf‘s first-ever stint in screenfighting, something she’s wanted to do for a while now, and couldn’t have come at better time than several months ago, thanks in part to her already-established friendship with Falahi. Cinematic Fight Studio's Latest Short Crosses Bullets And Blades In SPY

The folks at New York City-based Cinematic Fight Studio have a new action short now available on their official YouTube channel in the form of Spy. Filmed back in January, the short was directed and choreographed by Lang Yip, and features performances by Vera Lam and Cinematic Fight Studios’s own Adam Lee, who also utilizes his time as a motion graphics animator, among other things. Of course, Spy is just one of several new projects on the way as Yip and his crew are also producing new videos, as well as preparing the fight choreography for independent filmmaker Anthony Pellino’s upcoming short fan film, Mortal Kombat: The One. Around The Web: Indie Action Arms Itself In KNIFE FIGHT And KING OF STICKS

Action actor and stuntman Gui Da Silva returns back to the screen for his latest performance in the new shortfilm, Knife Fight. The shortfilm is Da Silva‘s latest (….ahem…) stab at weapons’ choreography opposite fellow actor and stuntman James Young, exquisitely arranged once again by LBP Stunts Chicago’s own Emmanuel Manzanares, who previously directed Da Silva in the stellar pistol-whip action short, Extraction. Both Da Silva and Young kick off the new year in the independent field just months away from seeing their respective stunt credits unveiled for Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with their next credited work on director Brent Ryan Green’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, The Veil, set to release in 2015.
