THE CROW Moves To August For Lionsgate

The trade s are hot on the heels of this year’s events at CinemaCon. That means a few early blurbs and bits of news as the days progress, including reports now that Lionsgate is pushing The Crow from its June 7 date to August 23. Bill Skarsgård stars in the Rupert Sanders-directed adaptation of James O’Barr hit graphic novel. The movie revamps the Alex Proyas-directed 1994 dark fantasy thriller that headlined actor Brandon Lee in his final screen role – about a musician brought back to life by a mystical bird to seek vengeance against the men who murdered him and his fiancée, Shelly, played by Sofia Shinas. THE CROW Remake Sets June 2024 Theatrical Release

Rupert Sanders’s reimagining of the James O’Barr graphic novel, The Crow, will open from Lionsgate on June 7. Actor Bill Skarsgård stars in the title role from a script by Zach Baylin and William Josef Schneider, along with FKA Twigs and Danny Huston. The news comes out of The Wrap on Wednesday evening which also reports that John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski is overseeing additional photography for that franchises’s upcoming spin-off, Ballerina. That film stars Ana de Armas and is being directed by Len Wiseman for a June 6, 2025 release, also from Lionsgate. Director Scott Waugh is here to pick up the slack nowadays having just landed on radar this summer through Netflix with Chan/Cena thriller Hidden Strike, just in time to help fans of the franchise get their action fix with a promisingly R-rated delivery of Expend4bles beginning September 22. Blood and guts and all the trimmings, etc. This film is selling itself for sure, shoddy green-screen be damned. What matters is my fellow forty-somethings and older get to feel like kids again.
