D23: Trailers For Season Three Of THE MANDALORIAN, A First Look At AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, And More Out Of Anaheim
With one day left, D23 wrapped up its events at Anaheim on Saturday with a slew of announcements, panels and even some exciting footage. I’ll be rounding up the trailers in other posts for now, while you can feel free to catch up on the promos for the following, including Season 3 of The Mandalorian, the season premieres of Andor and Tales Of The Jedi, Willow, Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion and Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf By Night. You also get a first look behind the scenes featurette for American Born Chinese, and trailers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and National Treasure: Edge Of History.
Marvel Studios’ THUNDERBOLTS In Development, Director Attached
Marvel Studios is adding to the roster going forward with Thunderbolts, according to Deadline‘s Justin Kroll. The film will be directed by Jake Schreier from a script by Eric Pearson (Black Widow). The lore is based on the work of Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley since publishing in 1997 and bares at least eleven incarnations of the titular team of supervillains who band together for government missions. As Kroll notes, while much has been abuzz with the quiet search for a new Fantastic Four director, studio had been focused on developing this particular project and “according to insiders, Schreier presentation in recent weeks blew away execs and ultimately landing him the job”. New SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Trailer Has Me Pining For More To Jump On The Momentum Here
Marvel Studios released the newest official trailer for Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings on Thursday evening. The film brings Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and screen legends Tony Leung Ka-Fai and Michelle Yeoh to the table for one of the latest chapters in the nascent fourth phase of Marvel’s filmic exploits. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. Agreeably, not everyone I’ve spoken to is approving of how it looks so far – I’m saving my own judgment until I read reviews or actually get to see it myself. BLACK PANTHER 2 Signals Start Date, Casting
Save for whatever expectations you might have for the future of the Black Panther arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we now have news that production on the sequel is expected to commence next summer in Atlanta with Ryan Coogler returning to the director’s chair. Casting wise, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Tenoch Huerta (Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico) is joining the new movie as an antagonist, opposite returning cast members Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. The sequel was originally announced last summer at D23 for a May 2022 release among its slate, long prior to the death of actor Chadwick Boseman back in August from colon cancer; Boseman carried the role between four films within the MCU, including Coogler’s 2018 standalone film which garnered more than 1.3 billion dollars at the box office.

Their hands have been involved with other projects but that hasn’t deterred them from continuing to craft one of the best, most extraordinary and memorable film franchises to date within the MCU, and they’re back again to bring the journey closer to its end with Avengers: Endgame, following the harrowing fracas of Infinity War and the casualties thereof. A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey.
