Marvel Studios released the newest official trailer for Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings on Thursday evening. The film brings Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and screen legends Tony Leung Ka-Fai and Michelle Yeoh to the table for one of the latest chapters in the nascent fourth phase of Marvel’s filmic exploits.
Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.
Agreeably, not everyone I’ve spoken to is approving of how it looks so far – I’m saving my own judgment until I read reviews or actually get to see it myself. At any rate, it’s a chance to see if Liu has what it takes to lead a comic book IP on the big screen, as well as a martial arts vehicle being that he’s also experienced in stunts. Time will tell otherwise, but you also can’t deny the excitement of seeing a major big budget studio martial arts movie out of Hollywood, which feels like a rarity even when paired up with the upcoming Snake Eyes movie (I’m less enthused to mention Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat but… that’s another article for later).
….Hm. It kinda makes me wish Ninja Assassin got a proper redux, R-rated caliber notwithstanding. Oh well.
September 3, y’all! Mark the date.
